We are happy and sorry - too, For we know we leave behind us Days that were both gay and blue. Some were days bright and sunny, Others were of darker strain. Some were days of light and sunshine. Others held for us mist and rain. When we started in as Freshmen, Happy we had come so far-- Just to think of being Seniors, Seemed far away as the North Star. But we have come year after year Until the battle we have won. Our character has been strengthened, There is pride that the journey’s done. As we ' ve struggled up the path, Till we reached the peaks so high, We’re happy to have found this moment Although to you we must say goodbye. As our echoing footsteps leave the school, Underclassmen-may you rise to greater height. May you make our school much brighter Make shine its color of blue and white. Dixie Lee Snyder Willie Ann Campbell Eugene W ade CLASS PROPHECY Bobbie Buchanan, Edna Gregory, Sally Kennedey We three have been asked to foretell the future of our classmates, so we have looked into the crystal ball and found our own town of Craigsville and the near vicinity: We see that Robert Clements has now taken Colonel Roller’s place at A. M. A. Ashby Hicks, one of the biggest flirts, is married to Betty and lives in Goshen. Herman Knight and Nancy Jo Nicely are now living on a farm near Craigsville, and Nancy Jo has taken Mrs. Showker ' s place teaching English at the High School. Thomas Minter is manager of the largest Super Market in Augusta County located near Via’s Crossing. Sally Kennedey is head cashier of the Market-in other words, she controls the purse strings in their family. Eugene Wade is superintendent of Lehigh Portland Cement Company. Mary Cale is in business for herself - baby sitting and training high school students for that profitable business. We hear that some of her clients are bachelors! Peggy Humphreys is chief soda jerk at Craigsville Drug Store, but she still finds time to eat her favorite - chocolate sundaes. Geraldine Smith has tied the knot with William and they are now living on the Snyder farm-a good place to raise all the little Snyders! William has become quite a politician-he has taken Senator Byrd’s place in Washington. Connie Strickler is happily married to one of those Estaline guys. Jane Strickler no longer lingers at Goshen, for she convinced one of those guys she would make a perfect wife-she has, too, for they live in a well-kept vine-covered cottage. Dixie Lee Snyder is still hanging on to Gene because now they have become Mr. and Mrs. and have two little redheaded Bussards. Looking back into the crystal ball for our classmates who have felt the call of far-away places, we see Ronald McKee, our best athlete, as basket¬ ball manager at U. C. L. A. Charles Mawyer and Doris Jean own a large ranch in Texas-rope ’em cowboy! Robert Buchanan is one of America’s greatest modern authors, who is living in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife, Maxine. We see Jasper Reid as a bus driver in New York City. Betty Puckett is one of the nation’s most famous singing stars on Broadway today. Lillie Sprouse is a Lieutenant in the Waves and has a sailor in every port. Betty Stephenson has also joined the Waves in the hopes of catching up with her sailor man. Louise Newcomb is the wife of a contractor in the Philippines. Wilma Wilson finished her course at Grace Hospital and since her country needed her, she is a nurse in Russia. Floyd Welcher is owner of a large diary farm in Iowa. Edna Gregory, looking for some excitement, went to Alexandria. She is work¬ ing for the F.B.I. - be sure to catch your criminal! We see that Jean Moran is one of the best women racers at the Indianapolis Speedway. We also see that Willie Ann Campbell is “Mrs. America of 1963’’ - of course her name is no longer Campbell! Ruth Campbell is secretary to the President of the .United States - she had to change her political party to get the job, but it was worth it. Robert Via is ambassador to Spain. Billy Wilson has taken over Arthur Godfrey’s business and TV Show. Peggy Doyle is superintendent of nurses at C O Hospital in Clifton Forge. She somehow finds time to nurse Cecil, too. Shirley Via pays an annual visit to her Alma Mater with the Delmar photographer - she is his permanent secretary. CLASS GRUMBLE Mary Cale, Jean Moran, Lillie Sprouse No school year is a bed of roses, so we three can find a lot around here to grumble about. Why can’t they send the little kids back to grade school? We’re soon going to have to change the name from Craigsville High School to Craigsville Kindergarten. Mr. Monger must think this is a prison for he says that we can’t be excused from class unless its absolutely necessary. Doesn’t he know we have to check up on our boy friends! We wonder what the senior boys think the girls are! They must think we are punching bags for we are gradually changing from white to black and blue from their banging on us. We also wish the boys would study just once-everytime we have a test they worry us for every answer. It’s a wonder we all don’t have pneumonia. In one room the teacher says its too hot, and up go all the windows ! Another teacher says its too cold and down they go again! Also its a wonder that the ones of us who ride the bus are still alive. We stand in cold, rain, sleet, and snow waiting for hours for the bus driver to pick us up. We are going to buy him an alarm clock so that he can make his run on schedule. Who do the teachers think they are-privileged characters? They always get in front of us in line at the cafeteria, when they know that we’re nearly starved. Mr. Sergeant teaches typing in a most peculiar way-he ' s just like the broken record-“Get out paper for a time test”. Looks like we are getting a lot of pop quizzes these days. The teachers must be trying to make book¬ worms out of all of us and who wants to be a worm? Does Mrs. Caryl Showker think we manu¬ facture chewing gum? I’m sure she doesn’t realize that we have to buy it. (When we can’t bum it)! Whenever we walk into her class, she checks to see if we are chewing, and then-”Write 400 times I must not chew gum in Mrs. Showker’s class. ’ We surely wish that she would supply us with paper. Everytime we have History Class we are always getting off on another subject- could it be because Mrs. Trainum wants to get out of teaching us? Mr. Monger really misses his Physical Education classes this year. He has to get some exercise so he walks back and forth across the room in Government class until we all get sea-sick. And another thing about Mr. Monger (the principal is always the best target for our grumbling)-whenever we skip class, we always meet up with him. Is he watching us or are we just on the look-out for him? We just can’t understand why the Forestry Service can’t think of something to get the girls out of class. The boys get out to fight fires and get paid for it, too! Couldn’t we carry the water for them, or carry their axes, or handkerchiefs or just anything? All the sophomores ever do is fuss. Seems like they would be growing up a little! And just who do the seventh graders think they are? Everyday they come out at fifth period and grab the basketball. Whose Physical Education period is it supposed to be anyway? The Juniors are so noisy and the Freshmen block the back halls, so that no one can get through. Ashby and Lillie must think History class is a joke telling period, Dixie thinks all her classes are penmanship periods-every class she writes Gene a letter. The Post Office Depart¬ ment will get rich quick. We wish some of these girls would keep their personal affairs to them¬ selves. Wilma might as well have her letters from Billy published in the school newspaper! We would get the title of being the quietest class in school if it were not for those two noisy ones- Bobbie Clements and Wilma Wilson. Why can’t Betty Lou and William learn what play practice is for? We tell them it’s not a time to try to make love - we want a good play, we’re not worried about a successful romance. Isn’t Betty Puckett ever going to settle down to one soldier? She is always writing to a new one-its either Junior, Roy or Billy just now. Mary Cale keeps the telephone busy-she is continually talking to those Goshen boys. Suppose there was an emergen¬ cy? And why can’t we go to the drugstore sometimes without seeing Edna and Peggy ? Are they by any chance looking for someone? Jane, too, is always changing boy friends. Can’t she make up her mind which one she wants ? The boys seem to have a little trouble along that line, too. Imagine a senior boy going with a seventh grader 9 Its been done, you know. They try them all out from seventh on up to our own class. What’s the matter with us senior girls-certainly there are more of us then there are of them-they would at least have some choice in their own group! There ' s plenty more to grumble about, but Mrs. Frances Showker wouldn’t let us write more than seven hundred and fifty words - so - that’s all folks! JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS President.
