First, we thank you for all you ' ve done Towards helping us to this goal we ' ve won. Parents, friends and teachers, - -everyone Have helped us along until this task was done. As now another life we must start We find joy and sadness in each heart. As we think back over the past These four years have rolled by too fast. They were years of laughter and smiles Mixed with times of sadness and trials. Colors and Flower Yellow and Green Yellow Rose But each hardship has had its place In molding our characters for life ' s race We have climbed the mountain, so now we must part-- Let ' s keep the lessons we ' ve learned close to our heart. - -Ruby Cale BEST LOOKING MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED BEST DISPOSITION Dorothy Myers, Jerline Downey, Larry Robertson Rodney Doyle BEST ALL ROUND FRIENDLIEST MOST STUDIOUS Evelyn Moran, Ralph Showker Dorothy Myers, Ashby Hicks Lena Puckett, Eugene Shipe Annabell Terry, Larry Robertson LAZIEST Elsie Humphreys, Carl Fix BIGGEST FLIRT Corinne Claytor, Eugene Shipe WITTIEST Barbara Horne, Ashby Hicks MOST ATHLETIC Nancy Knight, Rodney Doyle Seniors RUBY GALE Monogram Club 1 yr. , Annual Staff 1 yr., Basketball 3 yrs. , Softball 3 yrs., 4 -H Club 4 yrs. , F. Class Will We, the Senior Class of 1952, being of sound mind and body and knowing that all things must come to an end, hereby make and declare this our last will and testament. So, be it known to all that we, Lois Sprouse, Goldie Stokes and Annabell Terry, testators of our Class do hereby give, bequeath and otherwise dispose of these bits of our Class Personalities, property and characteristics to the following underclassmen, with the hope that they will find them useful. We separately bequeath the following: To the Juniors, we leave our home room. Keep it neat, clean, and the desks in line. To Mrs. Frances Showker, our home room teacher who has been so patient in helping us to achieve our goal, we leave the oncoming Junior Class. To Louise Newcomb, Ruby Cale wills her ability to play softball. Corinne Claytor leaves her bossy ways to Jane Strickler. To Ruth Campbell, Sara Coffman wills her glasses, and hopes she will use them to read comic books. Jerline Downey leaves her Shorthand Book to Sally Kennedy hoping she will find it useful. To Wilma Wilson, Barbara Horne leaves her terrible laugh. Elsie Humphreys wills her flirty ways to Dixie Lee Snyder, and her laziness to Lillie Sprouse. To Phyllis Moran, Nancy Knight wills her ability to play basketball. Evelyn Moran leaves her neatness to Peggy Doyle. Dorothy Myers wills her love for convertibles to Willie Ann Campbell. Lena Puckett wills her love for the McKees to Carol Hoylman. To Geraldine Smith, Della Sprouse leaves her successful love affairs. Annabell Terry leave-s her quiet ways to Stella Lumsden and her title of Most Studious to Shirley Via. To Betty Stephenson, Naomi Wade wills her love for the Morans. Goldie Stokes wills her love for Churchville boys to Delores Gregory, and hopes she will soon be suc¬ cessful in that direction. To Wayne Pettry, Lois Sprouse wills her love for the Boston Red Soxs. Nelson Smith leaves her reserved manners to Betty Puckett. Sharon Tyler wills her Baltimore accent to anyone who can talk like her. To Doris Jackson, Ruth Fox wills her dignified ways. Gene Colvin leaves his big mouth to Bobby Clements. To Robert Via, Rodney Doyle wills his popularity with the Goshen girls. Carl Fix leaves his title of reckless driving to William Snyder. To Cecil Fridley, Ashby Hicks wills his love for baseball. Johnny O ' Neil leaves his silly ways and jalopy to Charles Mawyer. To Billy Wilson, Larry Robertson wills his business-like ways. Douglas Shipe leaves his ability to sing to Tommy Minter. To Donald Finer, Ralph Showker wills his good looks. The foregoing will of the Senior Class of 1952 was signed by the testators in the presence of competent witnesses on this 30th day of June in the year of our Lord, 1952, and we do hereby make and declare this our last will and testament. Class Prophecy Jerline Downey, Lena Puckett, Naomi Wade Just as the three witches in Shakespeare ' s play prophesied Macbeth ' s future, so we three modern spirit women will peer into our boiling cauldron and call forth our classmates as they will be ten years from now. Double, double, toil and trouble Fire burn and cauldron bubble. We weird sisters, hand in hand Posters of the sea and land Thus do go about, about Thrice to thine, and thrice to mine And thrice again to make up nine. Peace ! the charm ' s wound up. Emerging from the haze we see Ruby Cale, the senior who so emphatically declared she was going to Bridgewater College to study law. It seems she really meant what she said for she is now a corporation lawyer in Richmond, Virginia, with Raymond as her partner. We see Corinne Claytor on a Transcontinental plane winging her way to Alaska to meet her husband- to-be, who is a famous scientist discovering all kinds of new things about the frozen North. Our home county of Augusta comes before our eyes next. Here we see Gene Colvin sitting in on a Board of Supervisors meeting. He is the newly elected member from Pastures District. Sara Coffman is in the County Courthouse in Staunton. She spends quite a bit of her time there, for she is court secretary to the Commonwealth ' s Attorney. Johnnie O ' Neil, like so many other sons who follow in their fathers ' footsteps, is manager of Stillwater Worsted Mill in Craigsville. Evelyn Moran, so undecided while still in school with so many eligible men on her list, finally chose a guy from Sprouse Hollow and has settled down to a quiet and peaceful life. Larry Robertson, who worked as an usher at the Craig Theater during most of his high school career, now employs other High School boys to do just that, for he is now owner of the newly remodeled Craig Theater. Nelson Smith, who always said that she wanted a large family, has 8 kids now! It seems that Mr. and Mrs. Wade are trying to take Ma and Pa Kettle ' s place ! Lena Puckett is one of the best teachers of promising young beauticians at the Woodrow Wilson Tech¬ nical School. All of the students like to get in her class for she is so patient and kind to them. Naomi Wade, who was undecided whether to be a secretary or Dewey Moran ' s wife, is now both. They own a large Hereford cattle farm, and there is plenty of correspondence and check writing, cooking and ■ ' leaning to keep Naomi busy. We 1 eave our Augusta County folk, stir up the kettle once more, and out of the haze this time we see Sharon Tyler, whose ambition was to be a model. She is a very successful model of bridal clothes in an ex¬ clusive dress shop in Baltimore. Ruth Fox, who is now working as a private secretary in Baltimore, finds it hard to keep her mind on her work when her boss is around. Rodney Doyle made the All Star Team in the American League last fall. He plays short-stop for the New York Yankees. At present the team is making a good will tour of Soviet Russia, playing all the best Russian teams. Eugene Shipe has now taken over Harry James ' s orchestra - to think he was once a trumpet player with the Craigsville High School Orchestra! Nancy Knight is finding the role of a sailor ' s wife very exciting with all those other good looking gobs around. Ashby Hicks, one of our class ' s biggest flirts, is in the Navy. At present he is stationed at Bainbridge, Maryland. He has a dame in every port, for he still ships out ever so often. Goldie Stokes is a very successful telephone operator in New York. She really loves her job - we believe it is all the interesting conversations she has with the men. Dot Myers, since she had to consider her husband ' s health, moved to Florida to live. The climate and her cooking must both agree with him, for he now weighs just Z50 pounds. Barbara Horne is a lieutenant in the Waves stationed in Miami, Florida. Elsie Humphreys, the jitterbug of our class, is making her dancing pay. She is one of Arthus Murray ' s best dancing instructors, with her own studio in Charlotte, N. C. Ralph Showker is in the Whole Sale Business in Harrisonburg. He married Carol dear and she is his partner both in public and private life. Annabell Terry, our quiet and studious class mate, is head telephone operator in the Pentagon. She is kept busy putting through calls to all the important government officials. Carl Fix has achieved his ambition. He is pitching for the Boston Red Sox and has just completed a most successful season with 25 wins and no losses. Lois Sprouse is still in love with Wayne. They have just moved into their new home in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. There are four little Pettrys, svho will soon be able to help Dad with his Spring plowing and hay baling. Della Sprouse, working as beauty operator, is kept busy keeping house for Kenneth and curling all the golden locks of the Waynesboro gals. They live in a newly developed subdivision of Waynesboro, for Kenneth is employed at Dupont. Jerline Downey is secretary to the Commandant at V. M. I. Some people get all the breaks ! How many hearts she has broken! We have conjured these future jobs and interests of our classmates for you and now we must vanish into thin air as we sing: Double, double, toil and trouble Fire burn and cauldron bubble. We weird sisters, hand in hand Posters of the sea and land Thus do go about, about Thrice to thine, and thrice to mine And thrice again to make up nine. Peace ! the charm ' s wound up.
