A. Glover CLASS WILL OF 1950 Ila Mae Sorrells We, the Senior Class of 1950, being of sound mind and body and knowing that all things must come to an end, hereby make and declare this our last will and testament. So, be it known to all, that we the Senior Class in 25 separate and distinct parts do hereby give, bequeath and otherwise dispose of these bits of our personality to the following underclassmen, with the hope that they find them useful. We separately bequeath the following: To the Junior Class, we leave our home room and the title of Seniors , admonishing them to be dignified and serious at all times. To the Sophomores, we will our ability to get by , and our list of excuses for getting out of class. Don ' t use them too frequently or you ' ll get caught. To the Freshmen we leave our ability to get along with the teachers and our four years of good times. To Mrs. Frances Showker, our Senior Sponsor and friend, who has helped us with all our problems, we bequeath a cooperative Senior Class next year, and we wish her the best of everything. Nellie Downey, our witty senior wills her witty ways to anyone who can be as witty as Winkie . To Janet Hoylman, R. A. Glover bequeaths his title fo Valedictory, and his unsuccessful love affairs to Thomas Gregory. Z. W. Fitzgerald leaves his plumpness to Brownie Smith and his promptness to Raymond Clark, hoping he will use it wisely. To Scott Campbell, Nara Swisher wills her reserved manner and to Lucinda Hunter she wills her dignity. Alfred Cleveland bequeaths his winning and cooperative ways to Raymond Clark and his love for the girls to Douglas Showker. To Beulah Sprouse, Carolyn Robertson leaves her shortness and her basketball suit and to Brownie Smith she leaves her ability to tell jokes. Anderson Wade wills his ping pong paddle to Franklin Colvin, so he will win the championship next year. To Pearl Downey, Peggy Kirts bequeaths her flirty ways, hoping she will use them to the best advantage. John Coffman leaves all his absent days to the Juniors so they won ' t have to miss any next year. To Jane Hite, Betty Via wills her title of Salutatory, and to Doris Earhart she wills her blond hair. Harold Lee Wade bequeaths his position on the baseball team to Glenn Coffman. CLASS WILL CONTINUED Dorothy Fridley leaves her cuteness to Evelyn Via, and her stud¬ ious ways to Barbara Colvin. To Sonny Shipe, the maestro of hill billy tunes, Charles Nicely wills his harmonica, so he can really get in the groove. Mae Robertson bequeaths her mature ways to Louise Campbell. To Aubrey Jackson, Jr. , Billy Hunter leaves the mathematical parts of his brain so that Aubrey can make an A on Algebra next year. Elsie Claytor wills her ability to roll her eyes to Jean Gregory and her title of Laziest to Billy Piner. Catherine Sours leaves her title of best-all-round and her ability to play basketball to Elizabeth Ann Cook. To Franklin Colvin, Jake A. Bussard wills his popularity with girls and boys alike. Nannie Welcher wills her love for the Dickies to Mildred Via. To Ronald Colvin, Chastine Napier leaves his height, so that Ronald can grow and grow and grow. Peggy Kennedey bequeaths her quiet ways to Catherine Montgomery, in hopes that she will use them. To Louise Shiflett, Levon Sprouse wills her long hair. And I, Ila Mae Sorrells, leave my title of Best Athlete, to Lucinda Hunter and my terrible laugh to Anne Bowman. The foregoing will of the Senior Class of 19 50 was duly signed by the testators in the presence of the affixed witnesses, on this 29th day of May in the year of our Lord, 1950. And we do hereby make and declare this our last will and tesament. Witnesses Z. W. Fitzgerald Nara Swisher John Coffman CLASS GRUMBLE Catherine Sours I ' d like to know why everyone picks on me. Of all the twenty- five Seniors we have in our school, I would have to be picked as class grumbler when everyone knows I never grumble ! Since everyone thinks I can grumble, I might as well get started. First, I don ' t know what has happened to the Seventh Graders and Freshmen--everywhere you look they are writing their init- ials--J.S. andS.D., R. M. and P. D., G. M. and P. M., W.B. and A. M. Looks as if the love bug gets around. And those Sophomores act so much like first graders, some¬ times we think they are--throwing books, shoving in lunch line, shooting spitballs--will they never grow up? From all appearances, the Juniors have no business of their own to transact, because they are always attending to the Seniors ' . The Seniors can ' t seem to make up their minds about any¬ thing--what time to get to school, what excuse they can use to get out of government or biology, what girl or boy to go with whether to go to Churchville or Goshen, etc. Seems like Mr. Dorsey can ' t blow a whistle! He always calls on someone to referee for him. The only thing we ever do in Phys¬ ical Ed. is stand around and bounce an old ball--how can we get healthy that way? Would someone tell me just who is the principal around here? The Mister or the Mrs. or both? Mrs. Trainum is forever fussing about someone being late for class--seems she forgets we have more important things to do than to come to class. We have to hunt for our lost workbooks that are always found in someone else ' s desk who borrowed them to copy our answers. Does Mrs. T. know her government? Sometimes I wonder. She seems to want us to teach her from the questions she asks. Mrs Ramsey loves to ask questions, too. What is a phrase, what is a clause, what is the most interesting article in the latest Digest and why? Mrs. Glover and Mr. Humphreys seem to have that failing, too. Maybe some of these days our teachers will get educated and will stop asking us all the answers. Mrs. Showker is the world ' s best forgetter. She comes rush¬ ing back into the room saying, I forgot to see who is going to eat in the lunchroom--hold up your hands so lean count. Or she checks the absentee list--as if we would think of skipping class. Miss McNeil should be called the world ' s biggest eater, be¬ cause she saves all the candy, Nabs, etc. for herself. She ' ll never sell us any, even when we are starving! I guess I ' ll bring my grumbling to a close, with the hope that next year ' s seniors won ' t have as much to grumble about! CLASS POEM GRADUATION Nell Downey Gone are the days from Craigsville High, Reminiscing am I on those days gone by - At the ball games we had so much fun, Down in the lunchroom with everyone. Until the very day we die All of us will remember Craigsville High. To all the boys and girls we knew - In all the things we tried to do - Oh, may we ever strive to climb Never quitting ' till success we find. CLASS PROPHECY by Dot Fridley It is my duty to prophesy the future of the boys and girls of our sen¬ ior Class. Before beginning my prophesy, I asked each member what he or she would like to be doing ten years from now. I remember Nell Downey laughed and said she was going to be a house¬ wife. I believe she is Mrs. Boo Bowles. Alfred Cleveland has taken over his father ' s business - he is now owner and manager of the Craigsville Drug Store. The high school bunch still hangs out there after the ball games, too. Catherine Sours and Billy Hunter are now living in their new home in Craigsville with their family - just five little Hunters. Peggy Kennedy is the head beautician in one of the largest beauty sal¬ ons in New York. And ju st to think she got her start by leaving school at noon her senior year so that she could work in the Modern Beauty Shop !! Chastine Napier and Z. W. Fitzgerald have formed a partnership - they own one of the largest automobile agencies in Richmond - Buicks, I be¬ lieve they sell. The last I heard of Carolyn Robertson she was Superintendent of nur¬ ses at Johns Hopkm ' s hospital in Baltimore. John Coffman owns one of the largest farms in Augusta County. Elsie Claytor, deciding that nursing was not the profession for her, is now a successful Power ' s model in New York. R. A. Glover is a prominent criminal lawyer in Philadelphia and Nara Swisher is working as his private secretary. Peggy Kirts is society editor of the New York Times, since she gained so much from working on the school paper of Craigsville High School. BBetty Via, our studious Senior, is now working as a register ed nurse in Florida. Charles Nicely is a member of the All-American baseball Team, and is still able to sink them from most any angle. Levon Sprouse is a blood technician at Mayo Brothers Clinic way out in cold, cold Minnesota. Jake Bussardis a Surgical Doctor at University Hospital in Charlott¬ esville - Doris makes a good Doctor ' s wife, too. Nannie Welcher is secretary of Religious Education in the Penecostal Church in the state of Virginia. Harold Wade has become Business Manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers-he really wants to play the New York Yankees this season, for one of their best pitchers is Anderson Wade. Class Prophesy, continued: Kenneth Puckett is a commercial pilot for American Airlines, mak¬ ing routine flights from New York to London. Ila Mae Sorrells owns one of the largest dress shops in Charlottes - ville. Gene Nichols, or musician, is playing a tpombone in Tex Beneke ' s Band Oh yes, don ' t let me forget to tell you about Mae Robertson, our quiet senior who said she was going to be an old maid. She fooled us and her - self, for she recently married a missionary and they have sailed for the Belgian Congo. As for me, last and not the least, I hope, you will find me in some hospital working as a registered nurse, I think that I would be safe in saying that the 1950 Senior Class of Craigsville has made its mark in the world, and that the individual mem¬ bers have each found their own special work in which to wor k happily and successfully. REPORT The officers of the Craigsville Elementary School Student Cooper¬ ative Association for the year of 1949-1950 are as follows: CarolHoyl- man, President; Lee Minter, Vice President; Betty Dickey, Secretary; Patricia Trainum, Reporter; Ray Miller, Sergeant-at-arms, and Mrs. Henderson, sponsor. Each room has three room officers - a president, a vice president, and a secretary. All of these officers make up our council which meets once a month. Each room conducts its own S. C. A. meetings and brings a report of its activities to the council meetings where a general discussion is held. The room representatives report back to their rooms with the decisions of the council. Objectives set up for the year are: 1. Emphasize safety at all times 2. Keep buildings and grounds clean and attractive 3. Cooperation of pupils and teachers 4. Practice good health habits 5. Observe American Education Week 6. Give a big entertainment in the spring 7. Help in charitable drives 8. Give one P. T. A. Program during the year During American Education Week fifty-four parents visited our school, seeing the classes in regular routine work. Most of these par¬ ents enjoyed eating a hot lunch in our school cafeteria. We gave the program for the November P. T. A. meeting, carrying out the theme of American Education Week. The charitable drives we have helped with so far are the T. B. Fund, giving $31. 23 and the March of Dimes, raising $229. We will help with the Red Cross. Our school needs money to purchase library books, art supplies etc., so we raise money by selling Christmas cards and garden seeds. The students also buy school supplies, candy and ice cream from the school. We have worked on all our objectives and hope to carry out them all by Spring when we give an Operetta. oe is Ale 111 Grade SchoolJE oj5 Look 4f i the W ar m ' s E- e Wew TriJS a ncj ov er J oniiors ATHLETICS t ACTIVITIES STUDENT COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION Seated: Standing: Mr. Judy - sponsor, Elliot, Hoylman, Glover - president, Kirts, Cleveland, Sorrells.
