VIRGINIA FRAZIER The yearbook staff takes great pleasure in dedicating this year's Hornet to Mrs. Virginia Frazier. Mrs. Frazier has always made every effort to see that we have done our best in our activities as well as class work. In order to accomplish this she has devoted many long hours after school and at home, working with the yearbook, the school paper, and promoting scholarship in her classes. In addition to the above she also acts as sponsor of the senior class and directs the senior play. By this dedication we hope to indicate, in some small fashion, our appreciation for one who works so unselfishly in our behalf. Thanks again 3 The Staff I ll: i We 'Me I , gfawetlz fi camd ab! 1 Zeaaldcwz , il , nee to li 4744 I eayzdeza :bmw 'i I Our Award of Devotion The Staff of the HORNET had no difficulty in selecting the recipient of the HORNET'S Award of Devotion. The unanimous decision, without hesitation or discussion, was that no words or awards could fully express to Mrs. Ida Elizabeth Parrish, teacher of the eighth grade, our devotion. If ever a teacher's life exemplified the words of the Scripture s: Who shall find a virtuous woman, for her price is far above rubies, the life of Ida Elizabeth Parrish does. Mrs. Parrish, who completes this spring thirty years of teaching, has given twenty- two years of teaching service in Holt County, fourteen of which have been in Craig. The number of students on whom her influence has fallen comes to a staggering total. Take untold patience, mix it with an abundance of love, add a keen intellect, a zest for living, a dry humor, season all with a caustic wit, and you have Mrs. Parrish--who through the years has been our friend when we needed a friendg our mother-confessor when we needed to sob out some little story of heartbreak or distress, our critic, prais- ing or correcting as we needed it, our judge, stern or lenient as befitted the case on trial, our guide, leading us to richer experiences when we thought she was following us, our TEACHER, to whom we are devoted, Mrs. Parrish. He was in the seventh grade of the Craig Grade School. Constant companion of his twin brother, and a happy, responsible student, Floyd Gene left a place no one can fill. Donna Ruth Biermann, a sunny and sweet child who delighted in helping others, died as the result of a heart operation performed at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, on August 25, 1955. Donna Ruth hoped the operation would make her well enough to live like other children. This brave little girl serves as an example to us all to live unselfishly for others Richard Mitchell was graduated from Craig High School in May, 1955 and joined the United States Navy immediately. He lost his life in an auto- mobile accident November 5, l955, as he was on his way to Crai to spend a leave with his family and sweetheart. Richard's love of home, Eis fun- loving disposition, his ability to make friends, and his patriotism to his country will long be remembered. The ever present threat of war, the pressure of finding a worthwhile occupation in a world demanding better trained people, the establishment of a home in a fast moving and complex society are but a few of the problems awaiting you. The instructional staff of this school has done its best to provide you with basic skills with which to deal with the problems of life. The rest is up to you. May each of you contribute your utmost to God, your country, and yourselves. To the Graduates: F. Bryce Pulley Superintendent To the Students: Though in future years the students of C. H. S. may separate to the far corners of our great nation, it will always be a pleasure to book and recall the good old days at Craig High School. The friendships garnered in school days often outlast those of other phases of life. May the good qualities of citizen- ship which you have ex- pressed in school be reinacted in the role of an adult citizen. The girls who work on the yearbook give willingly of what would be spare or study time. They frequently remain after school or take work home. But the experience they gain more than compensates for the extra effort. Timing is important in yearbook work, First, the book must be planned Then arrangements must be made for photographs. Pages must be planned, laid out, pasted and typed. Deadlines with the publisher must be met, and page continuity and multiples kept straight. The students who enjoy the finished yearbook owe the staff a debt of gratitude. .
