Skaith, Superintendent. M p A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT: Graduation from high school is an important time in the lives of youth. It marks the completion of education at almost entire public expense. It is a transition from the days when we depend upon our parents to that time when we shall be on our own. Society employs the system of public education to train youth in order that democracy might be perpetuated. Now, the time has come when you will pay society back for its investment in you. Whether or not the investment will pay big dividends is up to youl I hope you have made the best of your time and that you will not fail us. I think you won'tl Best of success to each of youl Sincerely, F. L. Skaith A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL: As we grow older and leave school behind, the complex mathematical formulas and historical dates which we learned in school often slip from our memories. In order that our school-founded friendships, which will be among our most precious possessions, do not follow the same pattern, use this book in later years to recall your enjoyable experiences as a student. The members of the faculty, who have worked with you, are looking forward to the near future when you will stand beside the other adult citizens in your communities to assume the responsibilities of a mature citizen. It was not difficult to make the selection. lt was difficult to decide what to call this award. To you, Superintendent F. L. Skaith, we present our Award of Devotion, for your devo- tion to our schools and com- munity that make up R-lll is unquestioned, and your stu- dents and faculty return this devotion. Daily we have watched you work, have seen your love for this work--no greater than your love for your students. With the skill of an expert, the tec- hnic of a master, you have taught us all. How you enjoy teach- ing! You might have been a capable law- 509 yer, an inspiring W0 'XX' ' ' - V0 Yip minister, a compe 61 5 tent businessman. THA'rs MA 50? V' Your choice was Boy! teaching. With the understanding of a friend, you have drawn forth the bewildered gropings of our young hearts and minds and helped us to know ourselves and one another. From your love of learning we have drawn inspiration, for you have a passionate enthusiasm for knowledge. From your fairness.and tolerance and honesty we have learned to respect human personality. From your pride in our achievement we have received satisfaction and comfort. Your source of inspiration is the Master Teacher. With faith unlimited, courage undaunted, you have faced life's pro- blems without flinching. You have inspired in us love and respect for our country and flag. You have called yourself an old maid about school housekeeping, but we have appreciated your sense of order, for is not orderliness the very essence of democracy? Who knows where your influence ends? Where there is a great teacher, there will always be disciples. For every good teacher and student, there is another teacher in the background, one who loves his work and makes of it the fin- est of all the arts. For one who loves his work, who does it with such en- thusiasm and skill that he made of it a glad, proud thing, there will surely come some day from the greatest of all teachers the words Well done, Thou good and faithful servant. Through this organization, the faculty attempts to bring to the student in a practical manner the premise that democratic freedom entails individual responsibility. The projects of this year have been similiar to those of the past. The council helped plan and carry out many as- pects of the school carnival, regulated class activities for competition in the King and Queen Contest, handled small problems concerning student activities at noon, and this year undertook the job of repairing toys for distribution at Christmas. The school Christmas Tree in the main hall and and the large wreath over the outside door were placed in position and decorated by the council again this year. We feel that the Student Council is an important and nec- B ce Pune hind al essary part of our school life, and that the students will carry 'Y Y- P . . . . .
