SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY This is 1986. It has been 20 years since graduation at Crabtree - Iron Duff High School. As reunion secretary, I have just written to each of my classmates to remind them that this is the year for our fourth reunion. As the last graduates of the school, we agreed to meet every five years on Mocking Bird Hill for a get-together to rekin¬ dle the memories of our dear school days. I have the following information in my file concerning each of the eighteen mem¬ bers of the class of ' 66: Dean Best is starring with Liz Taylor in The Rabbitskin Kid. Jean Best has just returned from her honeymoon with her fifth husband, Ted Mc- Elroy. Edward Clark has retired from the Army after spending six of his eight years in boot camp. He is now America’s potato peeling champion for five consecutive years running. Carroll Hawkins is co-owner of Crystal Beach Amusement Park at White Lake, North Carolina. Carroll and his wife, the former Miss Galyle Surratt, agree there is nothing greater. Dale Glance is the best hot rod driver in North Carolina. Of all the roads he has driven, he prefers Upper Crabtree. Do you wonder why? Freida Greene is happily married to Professor Hawkins, one of Western Carolina College ' s Sociology instructors. Mildred Hughes is a famous stage actress. Her latest play, The Unsinkable Mild¬ red Hughes , is breaking records. Freda Lee and Carol Crawford, old maids of Iron Duff, have just completed a million trips around Charlie ' s Place. Patty Milner has carried her basketball career to the big goal. She is now head basketball instructor for the Great Logans . Charles Ray Best and his wife, the former Louise Noland own a one-acre chicken farm on Big Branch. Doris Owenby has arrived home from her yearly trip to Europe to purchase the latest hats. John Best has taken over the Jack La Laine Program on television to improve and check the millions of figures ... He always was good at figures! Gary Rathbone is presently employed at Glance Hawkins Chevy Racing Associa¬ tion at Hawk Bone Race Track. Mary Edith Messer is working at Belk Hudson Department Store. She has been trying for the past six years to catch her boss. Martina Rector is still Sear ' s top model of ladies lingerie. Yours truly is secretary to the manager of the Smoky Mountain National Park. Carlene Ferguson, Prophetess 22
