Within the covers of this book you will get a glimpse of what life is like here at Crabtree-Iron Duff. We have tried to make this a credit to the class of ' 63, as well as an accurate record book, to be turned through many years from now when we are looking back with wistful eyes to the days of our youth when we were proud to call Crabtree-Iron Duff my school.” To our beloved parents and teachers we say, Thank you for your patience with the staff and for your gracious attitude toward making our Yellow Jacket a success.” Editor-in-Chief A 2 DEDICATION MRS. LOUIE NOLAND For your untiring efforts in the interest of progress for us, the students of Crabtree-Iron Duff High School; for your unwavering friendship; for being a most understanding and cheerful person; and for your helpfulness to all those who seek your aid and advice, we, the staff, do proudly and gratefully dedicate this 1963 Yellow Jacket to you, Mrs. Louie Noland, past teacher of Crabtree-Iron Duff, whom we all respect and love so dearly. So to the woman whom we shall never forget for her contributions to the school and her interest in our behalf, the staff is proud to dedicate this, the 1963 edition, to our true friend, Mrs; Louie Noland. 3 PRINCIPAL R. We were thirty-six bright-eyed youngsters, some happy, some crying, all wondering what this big building with a long hall and school bell would hold for us. Everything was a little confusing at first, but after a short time, we learned our way around and began to feel like a part of the school. During the first eight years of school we prepared ourselves for high school. In this preparation were many joys, a few sorrows and a display of the leather belt upon oc¬ casions! With our minds filled with many memories, there were nineteen of us who entered high school. High school came with the changing of classes, different clubs, and the basket¬ ball teams. All of us have belonged to the Dramatics Club for which we have pro¬ duced four different plays: The Dancers , Babbit ' s Boy,” It ' s Cold in Them Thar Hills, and Mama ' s Getting Married. Our Junior-Senior Banquet, Song In My Heart, was given at the Townhouse and every girl was dressed in a beautiful gown. We will remember this occasion for many years. The F.F.A. and F.H.A. banquets have always been something to look forward to. We will hold these high in our memory books. We are fifteen proud Seniors looking forward to a bright future. Our years of school have almost ended. We will always remember the happy times we have had together. In saying good-by we express our gratitude, for this has been the best years of our lives. The year is 1980, The place, the Crabtree-Iron Duff High School Auditorium. The occasion, a reunion of the graduating class of 1963. As I look around at this assembly of old friends, I find it difficult to believe that seventeen years have passed since we left the shelter of Crabtree-Iron Duff High School and started out into the world to win fame and fortune for ourselves. Some of us have acquired a few gray hairs, but it ' s easy to see we are still young and charming. We have distinguised citizens among us now -- proof that ambition and determination have been carried out. Carolyn B. Marcus is happily married. She and her husband, David, own Ghost Town in Daytona Beach, Florida. Johnny Bradshaw has chosen military life. He is now a Five-star General in Uncle Sam ' s Army. Deanna Crawford and husband have just returned to their home on the moon. Richard Crawford has been put in prison for the premature burial of his best friend. Barbara Ferguson is living on a dairy farm, and is employed part-time in the Education Building. Lois Greene is the home agent in Haywood County, She was always interested in home making. Melba Greene is cooking for the Crabtree-Iron Duff School, and on her days off, she flies to Cuba in her private plane to teach Castro Spanish. Bill Glance owns and operates the Glance Candy Company near Messer Road. He is peddling candy at the Crabtree basketball games. Jimmy Haynes is a guard at San Quentin Prison. It seems he always did like the other side of the bars. Barbara King, with all her seriousness, has become a very efficient English teacher in California. Ruth McCracken is a secretary working in the capitol at Washington, D. C. Dallas Smith, a state highway patrolman, has just been arrested and fired for permitting former class¬ mates to violate the law. Mary Sue Parks enjoys driving her Chevrolet through the streets of Waynesville, while her devoted husband is making a living as a mechanic. Marie Wood lives on a 200-acre cattle ranch in Abilene, Texas, and during her spare time is Elvis Presley ' s private secretary. She always did like Elvis. And I, Wilma Jones, am living in Hawaii and working as a professional model for the Jansen Clothing Company. It’s one o ' clock now and our party is breaking up. I am tired, but thrilled beyond words. As I say good night to all my friends, my heart is aglow with the warmth and happiness of finding myself once more among these wonderful people of Ole Crabtree-Iron Duff High!
