The Seniors have put forth every effort to make what you read and see in the 1960 5fellow Jacket worth while. As you leaf through these pages you will see a small portion of the work and play that helped us live up to our class motto: To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. 2 B. F. Nesbitt WE DEDICATE .... This Yearbook To a man who, through his patience, encouragement, example, and understanding, helped to make our school life an enjoyable one. He was teacher of Agriculture during our freshman year, and to him we owe a great measure of our success during the remainder of high school. As a builder of objects in the shop, so was he a builder of character in his classroom. 3 Superintendent of Sedools Cv2iStvee - ‘dvon Duff Sedool Board 4 A £oo Onto ‘6(ie dutuve Ten years have passed since the Senior Class of ' 60 have all been together. As I sit here in the lobby of a New York hotel I am very sleepy as I think of the good times we had back at C.LD. I fall asleep and dream of the Class of ' 60. Joyce Davis is now pecking on a mad typewriter as Fabian ' s secretary. Carlyle Ferguson is running Ferguson ' s Dairy Farm in Iron Duff. Wilma Sue King is teaching at Western Carolina College as the women ' s athletic director. Jane McElroy has played the field too long; she is an old maid living with her parents. Jerry Hoglen is playing baseball for the New York Yankees and Joan Rose has taken over Casey Stengel ' s place as manager since she was always good at managing Jerry. Gene Glance is a famous FBI agent in New York. He is still a bachelor. Harold Messer was such a studious person in school. He is the principal of Crabtree-Iron Duff. Henry Parton is tlie typewriter repairman for the typing depart¬ ment at Crabtree School. Since J.T. and Martin are expert mechanics they are co-owners of the Repair Service Station. Elbert Presnell with all his dogs has become a Hound Dog Man. Jerry Parks is the Heavy Weight Champion Wrestler of the world. Jimmy Smith is the singing idol of the nation since he has re¬ placed Elvis Presley. Tommy Williamson is happily married and living on Jonathan Creek where he owns a big farm. And I am still working in my beauty salon on Fifth Avenue here in New York. Eva Marie Stevenson Class Prophetess 5 S LCulty 6 3 culty teachers Mr. Glenn Noland Grade 8 Mr. Bobby Burch Grade 7 Mrs. Betty Terrel Grade 6 Mrs. James Kirkpatrick Grade 1 Mrs. Roxie James Grade 2 Mrs. Sybil Crawford Grade 4 Mrs. William Johnson Grade 5 Mrs. Edith Plemmons Grade 3 8 history Of CUss Of ’60 We came to good old C. I. D. in 1947. Then we didn ' t like school. The whole class didn’t think of anything but quitting at the age of 16, but as time went on we adjusted ourselves to it and wanted to be some¬ body. Our first big event was a may pole dance in the second grade. Then that was something new for us. There was one operetta for us until we reached the ninth grade then there were banquets. The school got together its first baseball team in 1958. They never won many games but it gave everybody the spirit. In our 11th year our class gave a play named Mountain Gal. Every¬ one in it did very well. All of us had fun giving the Seniors a banquet before graduation. We are looking forward to one this year. The class had many privilges. One was a tour of Champion Paper and Fiber Company. We all wanted jobs over there because the people did not seem to be working hard. Everyone is going to do his best in the Senior play. We are looking forward to graduation.
