A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE My mind wandered off my lesson in Mrs. Yate ' s class one day, as she was ex¬ plaining the change in Macbeth ' s nature as his ambition grew, leaped from Macbeth ' s problem to the future of our class. It is 1979. Amos Stevenson has become a movie star--he is playing as one of the Stooges. Marvin Downs is very busy daily now. He is brain surgeon at the Waynesville Hospital. Freda Ann Hill has surprised us all! I see her carrying a little book around containing the names and addresses of all eligible bachelors. We turn on the radio now and all we hear is Charles Surrett and his famous harmonica. Louis Stevenson is the manager of the Bowling Alley in Waynesville. Judy Parks is a very famous person; she is now singing on the Firestone Hour. Jack Brown is a sewer line inspector at the Champion Paper and Fibre Company. Terry Rogers is a cowpuncher at his ranch, the T and R, on Upper Crabtree. Beverly Chambers is in England where she has replaced Queen Elizabeth on the throne. Jerry Parks has taken Cheyenne ' s place. Does he compare? I see Kyle Hannah in uniform, a captain in the Air Force, after having spent 2 years in the Army, 4 years in the Marines and 3 years in the Navy. Marie Shetley is a homemaker where she keeps busy managing six children. Gerald Ferguson is driving a Cadillac; his jeep is in a museum. Dan Best is up to his neck in politics; he thinks he may become President. I see Jo Cutshaw is entertaining guests with her mad guitar at her summer resort. Tommy Davis has become a millionaire from selling pumpkins! His research and development of the pumpkin has made Iron Duff the Pumpkin Center of the world. Charles Clark has fooled everyone; he has graduated from the University of Hider Mountain. With Malcolm ' s words thanks to all at once and to each one, whom we invite to see us crowned at Svone, my dreaming ended; reality descended about me, and I shall persue my career (I hope) at Enka. 5 Jerry Crawford Prophet

CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1947, we the class of 1959, made our first ap¬ pearance in school. We were forty-four bright-eyed youngsters looking forward to the joys, sorrows, and daily happenings that we would behold. We were amazed by the long halls, the school bell and the way in which we were made to do things. We give the credit to Mrs. Louie Noland, our first grade teacher, for introducing us to school life and getting us off to a good start. After we got into the swing of school life, the years rapidly elapsed. Eight years later, which were filled with many joys, a few sorrows and a lot of leather belts and scoldings which left our minds filled with many memories, we were ready to enter high school. There were thirty-four of us that entered high school. We had gained some new classmates in the grammar grades but we had lost more than we had gained. Mrs. Frank Kirkpatrick was our home room teacher. She introduced us to the swing and hurry of high school life. The first enjoyable events of high school were the FFA and FHA banquets. After a short vacation we entered our sophomore year with Mrs. Kirkpatrick again our home room teacher. The year passed very quickly and enjoyably for we were in many activities and had a full schedule. Then the third year of high school came, and with Mr. Turner as our sponsor we began to fulfill our duties as juniors. We order¬ ed our rings with great interest and happiness. Next, we began to prepare for our junior play and Junior-Senior banquet. We feel our play, There Go the Grooms , was a great success, maybe not too much financially but in experience for us. The theme of our Junior-Senior banquet was The Gay Nineties which we hope the seniors enjoyed as much as we did; we will always remember it as a very enjoyable and grand event. In the fall of 1958, we entered school as seniors. Mrs. O. L. Yates was our sponsor. The publication of the school paper and annual, the class play, the selection of invitations and graduation preparations were the main factors before us and our journey s end as a class. The Junior-Senior banquet given in our honor shall be re¬ membered in our hearts always; it is wonderful to be honored in that way. Graduation day came swiftly by and now the future lies before us. Thus ends the history of our class, the class of 1959. We shall remember our school days with joy and happiness. 7 Historians, Marvin Downs Dan Best
