CLASS HISTORY On a bright, challenging day in August, 1944, a group of forty-five big-eyed, curious little boys and girls got our very first glimpse of the enormous building that was to be home for twelve years. And those upper classmen! How many, how strange, and oh, how big they were. Slowly, yet steadily, we studied our way through each grade until we became freshmen again--high school freshmen. Mr. Nesbitt and Mrs. Noland were our class advisors. That year it happened--we were initiated i n t o F.F.A.and F. H. A. There were thirty-six of us. Thirty-seven was the number in the sophomore class when we returned to take revenge upon the poor freshmen. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was our advisor. When we returned as juniors, we had lost eight of our mates. Shirley Plemmons wa s president that year, andMrs. Kirkpatrick was our advisor. To increase the class pocket- b ook’s contents, we sold shampoo. We ordered our rings and gave the one and only “Miss Minerva and William Green Hill.’’ The play was a success. The last big event of the third year was the party generously known as the Junior-Senior Banquet which we gave for the seniors. The theme was “Over the Rain¬ bow.” When our senior year came, we were really excited. There was so much to be done: invitations had to be selected and or¬ dered; calling cards had to be ordered, too (for what’s an invi¬ tation without the name of the sender ?); diplomas had to be se¬ lected and ordered; caps and gowns had to be measured for; a play had to be produced; examinations (horrors I) had to be tak¬ en and passed; sixteen units (of the right kind) had to be earn¬ ed; the Yellowjacket had to be assembled for the publisher; and we had the exhilirating feeling of waiting for the invitation to the Junior-Senior Banquet..., and our diplomas! George Kirkpatrick was president during the senior year. Mr.McElroywas our class sponsor. We had a good time plan¬ ning our senior trip, the last details of a senior’s year, and the twenty-six of us finally came to the last...the day we had work¬ ed and wfa’ited for for twelve years.... GRADUATION! Signed: Peggy Sue Greene Historian
