CLASS TESTATORS McClain Pope Annis Noland BABY PICTURES SNAPS CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1941, we the class of 1953, made our first appearance in school. We were sixty- five youngsters, all rather shy and awed by the bigness of the world away from our homes, par- ticulary the long halls, the auditorium and-everything! Mrs. Louisa Boyd and Mrs. Cleo Rogers were our teachers. After our first excitement, we began to get into the swing of school life, and then the years rapidly elapsed. Slowly trugging and toiling along we finally graduated into high school- Our excitement of being in high school soon subsided and we began to get into the swing of high school life under the watchful eye of Mrs. Chase. Before we knew it, the year was completed and we were sophomores with a little more confi¬ dence. Frank Medford was chosen president of our class and Mrs. Kirkpatrick was our sponsor. In the fall of 1951, we returned as Juniors. We realized we had-a great responsiblity to shoul¬ der. The class play had to be given, the class rings had to be ordered, and the all-important Junior-Senior Banquet at which we were to be hosts must be undertaken! Mrs. Kirkpatrick was our sponsor and Floyd Plemmons was elected president. Most of our time for a period of a few weeks was taken up with our class play, The Antics of Andrew. Our Junior-Senior Banquet washeldon May 1, 1952, with the theme, Lavenderand Old Lace. Everything was grand will long be remembered by all who attended it. Returning for our final year in September, 1952, under the guiding hand of Mrs. O.L. Yates, our senior sponsor, we were fully aware of the tasks ahead. McClain Was elected president of the class, and we dignified (?) Seniors became fully aware of our duties. Our chief accomplishments were the class play, publishing of the High-Life and The Highland er , and preparing for graduation. The Junior-Senior Banquet will long be remembered. It was wonderful to be honored in this way. Dean and Jean Best, twins of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Best were elected as our Mascots. Graduation day came before we realized it-and the diploma! Thus ends the first milestones in our lives. It was the year 1963 and I saw. Joe Caldwell still driving one of those big milk trucks. Joe is now the owner of a large fleet of trucks. Sue Dotson, whose future has always been based on homemaking, is keeping house for R. J. and their three children. Take a letter, please. Miss Ferguson. Ruth is secretary to the president of the largest bank in Clyde. Lower the gang plank, folks! Do you see whom 1 see? None other than our own Hershel Haney, and Dewitt James, who are now in the United States Marines. Who is the famous guitar player starring over the Grand Ole Opry? Why, Wilma Jolley, of course. Sliding on down the line I see David Jones. Bless my buttons if he isn ' t a famous singer in the Hog Trough Quartet. The Junior Class Play must have influenced his career. Now Wilfred Kinsland sure has done well! He ' s the mayor of Crabtree. Say, what ' s this? Buy your tickets forthe wrestling match tonight. EMELYN McCRACKEN DE¬ FENDS HER CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE. Wei I, all I can say is, it should be very exciting. Frank Medford is the fellow to call when you want to add a room to your house. I understand he is a first-rate carpenter. He should be—he cut his teeth on a hammer in his Father ' s workshop. What next? Why it ' s Paul waiting for Mattie Sue to come home from her music school to get his supper. If you people have been reading the newspapers, you know that one of the top scientists of the day is none other than Maxine Medford. Who ' s this handsome guy? James Williamson, star of the Iron Duff fo otball team. The Bulldogs. What is the future of Thad Medford? He ' s going into politics again. Maybe he ' ll be elected President someday. Looming in the distance I see James Morrow, a captain in the Army. Annis Noland is now running a nursing home. She is so kind and gobd to all her patients. Who knows, maybe some millionaire from Crabtree may will her a fortune for her kind deeds. Floyd Plemmons is one of the most successful farmers of our day. I ' ve heard he had to build a larger barn this year and is buying new machiners. What he learned in F.F. A. must have been worth a lot or could his summer job have influenced his career?? McClain Pope is now manager of the Western Auto Store in Waynesville. He can hardly keep parts for the Hot Rods the boys from Iron Duff are driving. He complains he can ' t sell them any speedometers. I suppose you are wondering what 1 was doing in the dream. Well, it was very Interesting but you see I was too busy thinking about my classmates to remember what it was. Oh, how dreadful, I almost forgot two members of our class. Cash Franklin, you see he is now a very successful business man. And last but not least, the cowboy from Liner Creek, Jimmy Wood.
