' 0 n o mr 0 0 s------..-....------: : Q---: :-----, :--:: : :-: : C Cc--------------..---..----- 1 9 '- ' 2 r --------------------..------------ 1 Brhatr THE DEBATE SQUAD Christensen I emmon I 1 hl Morris Nichol Pedersen Qcheele lui nm White You It E112 1921 Behav ilinnrh About fifteen people tried out for the debate squad so the competition was unusual y keen and the debates at the tryouts were of a high class nature As a result of the tryouts those chosen for the affirmative team were William Christensen Wendell Turner Beryl Lemmon and Herluf Pedersen as alternate Those chosen for the negative team were Sadie Lolbl Irma Scheele Audrey Nichol and Edwin White as alternate There were two others on the squad Merle Morris and Warren York These boys with Edwin White had a practice debate or two with other team and made a very creditable showing The Hrst district debate of the season was with Broken Bow The question debated was the state question Resolved that the present congress should adopt the substance of the Curtis Reed bill constitutionality waived Cozad maintained the affirmat ve The two to one victory for the locals proved the quality of their work The next district debate was with Overton Our negative team of girls represented Cozad The lnexperrence of the Overton team did not really put the locals to a t st The decision was unanimous for Cozad The final district debate of the season was with the Curtis Aggies It was tie Overton The debate was a classic and will be long remembered by those who heard t While the decision was adverse to the local team yet it certainly was no disgrace to be beaten by so polished a team as our Curtis opponents It is not out of place to mention here that without question the outstandme debater of the season was Sadie Loibl Her work at the Curtis debate was presented in a masterful way and no doubt would easily have been voted the outstanding debater of the evening for either team Her graduation this year will be a distinct loss to the school Cozad may look with pride on the record of her debating teams the past three years as she has once been crowned district champion and twice has gone into the hnals to determine the championship of the district ' . . ,ii . 1 - .
