Each year the yearbook staff selects an out- standing person to dedicate the Bluejacket Annual. This person is generally a hardworking individual who thinks of others before herself. Mrs. Pollard has been on the Coyle High School faculty for 4 years. She has worked dili- gently as Senior Sponsor, Teacher, and as our Yearbook advisor. It is for these reasons that we, the 1976-77 Bluejacket Annual Class dedicate this years Annual to this outstanding woman ... 2 MAC’S CORNER CORRAL GROCERY Our first step toward the progress of Coyle. GROCERIES BEER GULF GAS HEALTH BEAUTY AIDS Owners Mr. Mrs. O. E. McAnally E. Main 466-2614 Coyle 3 Our First Family 1976-77 Yes, that was a very good year. For we, just as any other school had the usual administration, staff, curricu- lum changes, additions, subtractions, improvements, etc... And our exciting year all began with the news of our New First Family—Mr. james Going and his wife, Gail. Although he is not a newcomer to our community, he was recently promoted to a higher position— SUPERINTENDENT-but he has served with us for six years in the capacity of principal. His limited leisure moments are spent as Royalful Master at the Masonic Lodge in Guthrie, President of the Coyle Lions Club, Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department and hunting and fishing. Gail teaches a class of twenty fourth graders. She enjoys basketball, volleyball, sewing, camping, and many other things outside. 4 It is evident to anyone who knows her even for a short while that she, indeed, is the woman behind this successful man because she so unselfishly lends a helping hand when- ever the situation arises. Needless to say, she is supportive of our entire student body and school-elementary, middle, secondary, faculty, and auxiliary aids. Their son, Franklin, has attended all his school years at CHS and at the present time he is in the 6th grade. Our Second Family Before the beginning of our 1976-77 school year we learned that we would be getting a new Principal and that it would be none other than OUR OWN Mr. Donny Darrow. Besides taking care of his principal duties, Mr. Darrow is also a coach for the high school girls basketball team, the baseball boys, and the 7th and 8th grade boys and girls basket- ball team and has done a good job at all of these. Along with coaching, Mr. Darrow teaches high school Health and Drivers Ed. He also enjoys watching T. V., playing golf and anything that has to do with sports. Mr. Darrow’s wife, Carol, also is a teacher here at Coyle and Mrs. Darrow teaches the 6th graders. Some of Carol’s hobbies are playing the piano, playing volleyball, and she loves to watcfr T. V. soap operas and is addicted to them; she also dislikes cooking. Mr. and Mrs. Darrow are both two very nice people and are very helpful and kind to everyone, and hopefully will stay with us for many more years. 5 Owner: Otis Long 466-9203 Iris Reisburg, counselor at CHS, is new this year. For hobbies Mrs. Reisburg en- joys macrame and reading. The 8th grade teacher, Mr. Robert Ripley is also a new teacher at Coyle High School. Basketball and racing cars are just two of his hobbies. Sheryl Smith is the second grade teacher at CHS. She attends college and is now in the process of receiving her masters degree. Crafts and decoupage are just two of her hobbies. Mr. Raymond Garis, Science teacher at ‘-HS, has become actively involved during his first year at CHS as one of the junior sponsors. He likes hunting and P ng pong. Mrs. Virginia Shultz is the Special Educa- tion teacher at Coyle High School. This is her first year at Coyle. Aside from teaching, her hobbies include macrame and dogs. Nick Yarbrough teaches vocational agri- culture here at Coyle. He also sponsors the chapter of Future Farmers of America. Outside school activities, Mr. Yarbrough enjoys hunting and horses. 8 Grades Kindergarten-4th at Coyle High School begin the long struggle to achieve that prized possession; the Diploma. It also means Mrs. Williams P. E. class, every- body line up and Dear Santa letters. Grades 5-8 mean WORK. It’s the time when your mind learns many basic ideas. Different teachers to acquaint one- self with, social functions and “boy discovers girl and vice versa. Grades 9-11 brin us closer to the end of our journey. The PSAT test to take, the Junior-Senior Prom, and to anticipate the Senior year. Senior means finality— that's all she wrote. Each pep assembly ... baseball and basketball game ... dance ... accumulate in a senior’s mind. As one near death views his life in retrospect—so a senior lives each item of high school days with knowledge the end is near........ 11 James Simpson-Go to college and study engineering. Rah! Loyal to our colors, We will never meet defeat, So here’s to Coyle High School, You’re the school that can't be beat! Rah! Rah! The idea arose in 1924 to build a school for the com- munity. The work began and a $30,000 bond issue was passed. The school was built in the spring of 1924. The graduating class of 1924-25 consisted of 6 Seniors. In 1939, the WPA (Works Progress Administration) remodeled the school and Auditorium. In the fall of 70-71 Meridian and Coyle were consolid- ated. To accommodate the growth, a four room building was built in the summer of 71 for the 1st-4th grades. In 1972-73 another consolidation took place-Langston and Coyle. To accommodate still further growth, in 1973 a 6 room building was built for the 5th-8th graders. Now in 1976-77 a new school is being built. The plans have been drawn up and approved and will soon be put into action. In the fall of 77” the high school students will return to a new building and a brighter future. Out with the Old, in with the New ... this is a coin phrase which is continually evident in our community. 24 Vicki Baker-Math Micheal Bilby-Drafting, Art, Sociology Health Carol Darrow—6th Grade janice Dulin—7th Grade Accounting Cloyann Fent-Home Economics Captola Ford—3rd Grade Raymond Garis—Biology, Physical Science, General Science, Physiology General Math Gail Going—4th Grade Rhonda Hayes-Learning Disabilities Brad Kisner-Vocal Music Jacqueline Pollard—Business Prue Randall—1st Grade Robert Ripley—8th Grade, 5th 6th Grade Boys Girls Activity Glenda Roark—5th Grade Kay Ryan-English Virginia Shultz—Secondary Learning Disabilities Donald Sloan-American, Oklahoma World History, Government High School Boys Activity Sheryl Smith-2nd Grade Kay Williams—Kindergarten, 1st-4th Boys Girls Activity Nick Yarbrough—Agriculture 25 SQjiien 26 Curtis Boyce Jonese Carnes Richard Downey, Jr. William Franks Bill Gatlin Donnie Graham Steve Hall Ernest Holloway Gary Jones Ricky Love Dianna Mills Dana Owen James Simpson Arlene Starks Darlene Starks Marsha Timmons Phyllis Washington Gary Williams 27 Leon Williams Dana Womack Shaundra Wright $UJtI3RS Eljaun Allen Nathan Mack Wayne Boyce Debbie Brothers Debbie Brooks Billy Caldwell joyce Carrier Emmitt Clinton Sammie Dawson, Jr. Chris Flasch Kevin Funk Micheal Gross David Hart David Johnson Janet Johnson Gloria Lindsey Sylvia Love Ernie Mack Cassandra Parker Charles Ray Gwenna Roark Terry Stuckey Paul Timmons Delton Trice Linda Washington Ramona Weaver Brenda Welch Trisha White Sharon Williams David Womack 28 Ml fe.v,.
