Class History On a bright September morning In 1951, thirty-three shipmates met on the deck of the magnificent Coyle Schooner. These new shipmates to the Coyle Schooner had not yet realized that this four year voyage would bum bright in their future. The first year of this voyage was spent on the Freshman Deck of the Coyle Schooner. The shipmates on Freshman Deck were as follows; Raymond Allen, Lloyd Biggs, Carol Bieberdorf, George Cantrell. Ray Cowger, PatCundiff, Elaine Davis, Lora Davis, Odell Davis, Patti Dobson, Rose Downey, Bob Erwin. Bobby Faulkner, James Freudenberger, Ida Belle Hay, Kenneth Higgins, Obert Ingle, Ethel Majors, Bob Matheson, Norma McGuire, Katherine Minnich, Thelma Moorman, William Park, John Thomas, Nathan Welch, David Wegner, Johnny Williams. The officers of Freshman Deck were: Captain-Mike Smith, Co-capta in-Carol Bieberdorf, Radio Operator- Lloyd Biggs, Cook- Norval Rasmussen, and Navigator- Mr. Hoyt Scott. After one hundred eighty days of hard work, we reached the Sophomore Deck. On the Sophomore Deck we found Wanda Seals from the Marshall Schooner and Johnny Balsiger from the Guthrie Schooner. Ray Cowger, John Thomas, Obert Ingle, Odell Davis, Lora Davis, and Elaine Davis all transferred to different schooners throughout the country. The Sophomore Deck was managed by twenty-nine shipmates. Captain of the Sophomore Deck was Norval Rasmussen, Co-captain- Patti Dobson, Radio Operator-Rose Downey, Cook- Johnny Balsiger, and Naviga - tor- Mr Nollie Barker led the shipmates through a successful year. Now, in 1954, twenty-two shipmates reached the Junior Deck of the Coyle Schooner. Leland WaTren, Dee Higgins, and Jack Meyers joined us on Junior Deck making a total of twenty-five shipmates. Tim Smalley and Norval Rasmussen left Coyle and hopped aboard the Stillwater Schooner. Johnny Balsiger and Bobby Faulkner transferred to the Guthrie Schooner. Eugene White isnow shipmate on the Tulsa Schooner. Katherine Minnich transferred from Coyle and jumped on the Midwest City Schooner. Wanda Seals left the Coyle Schooner to be the co-captain for Max Dunagan on his private schooner. Captain over the shipmates during the Sophomore Deck was Leland Warren, Co-captain-Kenneth Higgins, Radio Operator-James Freudenberger, Cook-William Park, and Navigator- Mr. Nollie Barker. Because of our diligent work on Freshman and Sophomore Decks, we were allowed to present a public per- formance known as Whoa! Auntie . When the Coyle Schooner docked at the port of Hawaii, we of Junior Deck entertained the Senior Deck with a feast. In September of 1955, we jumped to the Senior and final deck of the Coyle Schooner. Jeanne Smith from Hartshorn joined the crew to be with us in our final year. Thus, twenty-two shipmates started on the last lap of their voyage. Captain of the Senior Deck was Carol Bieberdorf, Co-captain-Kenneth Higgins, Radio opera tor- Pat Cundiff, Cook- Thelma Moorman, and Navigator- Mr. Bazil McCollom. Nathan Welch, Ida Belle Hay, George Cantrell, and Raymond Allen failed to report for duty on the Senior Deck. Soon after the year began Jeanne Smith became Mrs. Donald Eiland and Rose Downey became Mrs. Bob Erwin. The privilege of initiating the shipmates of the Freshman Deck was given to the Senior Deck. The Senior Deck also received the responsibility of publishing the Coyle Schooner's annual The Bluejacket . Early in the fall we presented our Senior public performance Swing Your Partner . During the last days of our stay on Senior Deck. Junior Deck entertained us with a parting feast. The last and most exciting part of Senior Deck was the week long trip at the port of our choice. On May 14, 1956, the Coyle Schooner anchored at Commencement Port where twenty-two Senior Officers received their discharge diplomas from their superior officers, thus closing the final chapter in their log.
