Member 1 FNjSSHUaN INITIATION • Oneta CLASS HISTORY In September 19 7 our troop set out on an expedition Our goal was to climb Graduate Peak atop Senior Mountain even though the rocks might be rugged,. There were thirty-six members in our troop all of whom had just finished a long climb over Grade Moun- tain This gallant troop was led by Fannie Bentley. Assistant leader was Patty Bodine, Secretary was Charlene Henderson and the reporter was Rae Dean Lambdin. Scout Masters were Mrs Addle Payne and Miss Pearl Ramsey. Members of the troop were as fol- lows: Lyle Allison, Jack Bailey, Euellene Barnes, Don Boyd, Verma Lee Cantrell, Donna Lou Churchill, Bert Coffman, Donna Davis, Raymond Hicks, Cledyth Ingle, San Kinney, Bonnie Longan, La Verne Long, Don Luster, Oneta Majors, Eugene Goble, Frances Pearce, Davie Pyle, Doris Warren, Earl Watkins, and Bill Whitmore. Betty Jacobs from the New Mexico troop joined us on our climb of Freshman Mountain but had to return to the New Mexico troop before the climb was finished. Also on this climb La Verne Long and Bert Coffman fell from the path and were lost to the troop. The highlights of this climb were the initiation by Troop Four and Pat Smalley and Mary Dry were crowned King and Queen of Carnival Mesa In May, 19 +8 thirty-eight of us sucessfully made the climb and were ready to rest for awhile before going higher, September, 19b8 found us starting up Sophomore Mountain. Our leader for this climb was Pat Smalley, Assistant leader was Perk Carrier, Our Secretary was Donna Lou Churchill and the Reporter was Rae Dean Lambdin., Our Scout Masters were Mrs, Jeanne Brown, Mrs. Ester Hitt, r nd Mrs Glendora Jacor New members who .joined us here were Dale Schroeder from the Guthrie troop, Betty Hunt from the Orlando troop, Percy Carrier from the Hinton Troop, and Barbara Gentry from the Maysville troop. One of our troop, Verma Lee Cantrell stopped in the Valley of Marriages and became Mrs. Leroy Emerson and did not finish the journey with us. Frank Jackson transferred to the Stillwater troop; Barbara Gentry to the Maysville troop; Louise Rollins to the Spark’s troop; and Gerald Gish to the Perry troop. Don Boyd discontinued his journey to become a member of Uncle Sam’s Troop, Again on this climb two of our members reigned as king and queen on Carnival Mesa on Sophomore Mountain, They were Percy Carrier and Fannie Bentley. We finished this climb in May 19 9 with thirty-six mem- bers still in good standing. We started the climb of Junior Mountain in the fall of 19 9 We were older and more experienced climbers so on this the third successive time our troop’s canadates were elected to reign over the festivities on Carnival Mesa. Our king was Davie Pyle and our queen was Euellene Barnes. Then too, we stopped for awhile at Acting Gapv Here our troop performed with distinction in a comedy-drama called Meet Uncle Sally . While down in Banquet Canyon amid the fragrance of Roses in soft mellow moonlight we entertained the members of Troop Four. Again this journey fin- ished in the springtime—May 1950. While climbing Junior Mountain we stopped in the Valley of Marriages and two of our members joined the Matrimony Troop. They were Patty Bodine (Mrs. Wayne Reed) and Oneta Majors ( Mrs. Leonard Biby). Also Dale Schroeder transferred back to the Guthi'ie troop and' Raymond Hicks to the Cresent troop and Rae Dean Lambdin to the Yale troop. After a summer’s rest we looked up to Graduate Peak top Senior Mountain and prepared to tackle this last and most hazard- ous climb On this last climb we chose veteran troopers as our leaders? Our leader was Bill Whitmore and our Assistant leader was Jack Bailey. We chose Euellene Barnes as Secretary and Betty Hunt as Reporter, On this climb a new member joined our troop. She was Virginia Faye Tate from the Cushing Troop. On this climb one of our members again left us to join the Matrimony Troop from the Valley of Marriages who returned as Mrs. Freddie Carnes. Along this rugged path it was our privilege to initiate Troop One of our own Council. They were just beginning to climb where we had been three years before. We looked forward to the stop at Carnival Mesa and again emerged victorious in the contest for rulers. We placed Don Luster on the throne as King and Betty Hunt as Queen of our last Carnival. Also on this journey one of our members, Virginia Tate was chosen Queen of the Bluejacket. This time on our stop in Banquet Canyon we were entertained by the members of Troop Three. Once more we produced a comedy at the little theater in Acting Gap. The title of this one was Rest Assured . Slowly but surely we climbed higher and higher. Suddenly before our eyes lay Graduate Peak, We called forth our best ef- forts and helped each other over the rugged crags until at last on May 10, 1951 we reached the summit. There before us we saw the tablets of stone of other troops who had passed that way. We too carved our names on a tablet and left it for succeeding troops to see. Here too we were greeted by the members of Graduate Council and were given our certificates by our Master, W.D. Daniel who admonished us ever to walk and act as Graduates. We looked back over the trails that we had made and what in the beginning seemed most difficult now seemed but small. How- ever from the Top of Graduate Peak we can see other higher and more interesting mountains to climb. So as we have finished this journey we now set out with our goal as Success Peak atop Exper- ience Mountain. It is our hope that we may all reach the top still climbing though the rocks be rugged. i . % « • • % • . t • J fc • 1 PROPHECY On a trip apotind the world in 1961 we started at Coyle. Driving past Whitler’s Corner we saw Jack Bailey, making his cam- paign speech for Governor. He was standing on the running board of his FORD. Running across the street to Evan's Store we saw JoAnn, going to dee Freddie, wonder what she went after. Oh 1 I know now, itks money. While we were at Coyle we decided to go up to the school house. We found Bill Whitmore, Supt., who was running the place, Clodyth Ingle, Hotne Ec. teacher, and John Schneider as the F.F.A. Advisor, all busy as everything. Also glancing out at the baseball diamond we saw a ball- game going on. Who’s team is playing the New York Yankees? Why it's no one else but Fannie and Pat Smalley’s very own team. After watching the ball game we decided that we were wasting our time, so on we went. It was about noon so we stopped at a roadside restaruant and there giving service with a smile was Doris Warren; While waiting on our orders we picked up a paper and found to our surprise that Euellene Barnes was the editor. The head- lines read Charles Downey (National FFA President) wins debate contest. Glancing over the sport page we saw in bold print, La Norma Domstead, Lady Wrestler, wins match. We bed enjoyed a very fine meal. Walking out of the rest- aurant we gazed up into the sky where we spotted Donna Churchill sitting on a cloud waiting for Gene Graham to fly by to pick her up. Were those Angels with her or little Graham Crackers ? Getting into our car we began driving and then all of a sudden my friend said, Who was that crazy fool driving like heck that we just met. Why it was a Driver's Training Car with theca® and only Percy Carrier as the instructor. Turning on our radio, we found a girl singing. At the end of her song the announcer said, You have been listening to Virgina Tate, tune in tomorrow, same time, and same station.' We were coming into the next town and we decided to stay all night. First we went window shopping. Walking past a furniture store we saw there in the window demonstrating BEAUTY MATRESSES ’ -s none other than Don Luster snoozing away. Next door was a Beauty Salon with Lyle Allison, Manager. Painted in big letters on the window. We saw Lyle inside putting lipstick ona girl. Walking on down the street we met M-ry Dry and Oneta Biby trying to catch their small boys who were saying, 'Hut, 1-2—3 • Walking past a Grocery store we saw Charlene standing in the door. The Neon lights above were flickering Stanbrough's Gro- cery and Market. % t I . • I . • • I • • . s 4 • • I i % V i: f • • • i % • • 1 • % I . • - • . • • • % z • « % • • • t • f • i • • f V I 3 I. . n f. • • - ; • I • l 1 • • • r i 1 • • •. When we arrived there we met Frances Pearce who informed us that she was Bonnie’s Doctor and that Botty Hunt was her head Nurse. While we were there Bonnie told us that Davie Pyle was in the Navy somewhere in California. She told us that Bill Erwin stood out side of the school house until the buses left at night, talking to Donna D., but now .they keep a bus between them to haul their keds around. That was all the gossip that Bonnie could think of, so we told her good-by and left. Being thirsty we walked into the neighborhood Drug store and got a coke and a Lif e Mr; azine. On the back of it we saw Gene Goble’s picture advertising “Lucky Strike Reading on a bill- board Come to the Watkins Circus , we decided to go see it. Earl Watkins was there to greet us and he told us that he was the manager and was doing very well in his business. We found that he had Sammy Kinney running the concession stand. We enjoyed our afternoon very much. Walking toward our hotel room a sight caught our eyes It was in a million lights in front of the Criterion Theater. It read Joe Sexton, greatest pantomire actor in the world, doing his idea of Cranking the Tractor . On the last day of our trip we arrived at Coyle High School and to our surprise it was no longer there. They had burned it to the ground so that the poor Freshmen of 50 could finish school. Thus ended our trip.
