Arkalalah, Ti by Pat Jordan Arkalalah, the annual Ark City festival that welcomes the coming of autumn, was celebrated for the 49th time, and, as always, Cowley studen- ts were a maior part of the event. The big weekend was officially kicked off with the crowning of sophomore Ruth Ann Walker as Queen Alalah XLIX in a program presented in the Auditorium- Gymnasium. The program, with Dr. David Ross as the master of ceremonies, featured the in- troductions of Little Miss and Mr. Arkalalah, the visiting queens, and the five finalists for Queen Alalah. Following the coronation, the queen ger fashion and ner court led the grand march, an Arkalalah tradition which was revived after a long absence. Walker said of the event, lt was like a dream come true. I'd been to every coronation since I was a little girl, and so receiving the crown was a special thrill for me. The next day, Summit Street came alive as thousands of people lined the traditional parade route to view the 2 V2-hour spectacle. Colorful floats, marching bands, cars filled with dignitaries such as Governor John Carlin, and people dressed in costumes of every description ap- peared inthe parade.
