Wm PRESIDENT AND WIFE HONORED A dedication dinner was held September 19, 1977, in the student center, by the College Endowment Association to salute Dr. and Mrs. Gwen Nelson for their involvement in the past 10 years in community and college projects. Among the proiects noted were the purchasing ot Galle Johnson Hall, the purchase ot the Renn Library site, and the construction of the college physical education building. Also, mention was made of Mrs. Nelson's care in improving the college grounds without pay. In honor ot the Nelsons, the College Endowment Association named the student center, the Nelson Student Center, t t, There are many rewards for a college president, but the greatest thrill of all is to see former students climb to the top of the success ladder In my ten years at Cowley County Community College, it has been a sincere pleasure to observe our graduates as they become leaders in medicine, law, teaching, the arts, business, and industry. Along the way, many earn distinction in athletics, dramatics, music, scholarship, and other college activities. My hope is that the College has been, and will continue to be, a vital part of these success stories. The very purpose of our being is to provide whatever support we can to help out students achieve their goals in life. To both former and current students, l say - try us - and let me know if you don't like us!! We are your servants. Gwen Nelson, President X Dear Students and Graduates: This has been a most productive year for our college, and I hope all ot you have met most of your educational objectives for the term. New programs were opened for the first time and many improvements were made to existing courses and programs. However, the two -factors of which the laculty and myself are most proud of our student body in curricular as well as extra curricular tields. We all are most thanktul for having had the opportunity to work with such a fine group ot students. Our best wishes go with those ot you who are leaving and a hearty welcome will await all of you who return to complete your work with us. Have a nice summer and come back and see us! Sincerely yours, A. F. Buffo, Dean oi Instruction R - A. F, Bulto, Dean of Instruction . . , Q A Sidney Regnier, Business Manager ' N 1,4 A V .,,, 9.3 I ,M Walter L. Mathiasmeier, Director of Community Services William S. Scott, Administrative Assistant and Registrar , me.. ., E... . , , The College continues to emphasize services to students which include programs outside the classroom. We in Student Services are happy to be working with these programs, which we feel are so important. Our two counselors, Hope Steiner and Forest Smith have been instrumental in many Student Service efforts. They have been especially active this year in developing a program of career information. Jerry Mullen, serving as financial aids director had his biggest year for aids and awards for students. Irene Cleveland served as bookstore manager for the first semester and Chris Hill took over for the second when the facility was moved to an improved location. Chris also served as our Tiger Action Club sponsor and did supervisory work in the recreation program. A new secretary, Lou luden, served the Student Services staff during the year, and Dr. Otis LoVette, the Dean, decided to give up his Kotter image and picked up the Smith Brothers look. Dick Carson, director of community relations, had a busy year, spent a lot of time on special photography work, and increased publicity for College events. Linda Hargrove continued the development of a comprehensive recreation program, while coaching three women's sports. She joined the full-time faculty during the spring semester. All in all, it has been a busy but prosperous year for Student Services. Otis K.
