RKALALA FE TI ITIE 190 On the evening of October 30, Rita Blenden was crowned Miss Arkalalah XXXIX by Miss Dixie Weir, Arkalalah Queen XXXVIII, Attendants were Misses Cathy Bay, Linda Brad- ley, Melinda Mclntire, and Valerie Olesong first runner- up. Arkalalah is an annual event which takes place during Halloween. The festivity in- cludes a carnival, 5-mile pa- rade, street events, talent shows, and the crowning of a queen. Those eligible for queen candidacy were sophomore girls from CCCJC, who had carried at least 26 hours dur- ? W... 5,.- .awp ,. ...Zi , gmail N + mf5.... W ing their freshman year. gi .Xi fm! P F XS V 'fam . , The Queen's float leads the 5-mile parade. The Top Ten queen candidates. BACK ROW: Marilyn McGehan, Melinda Mc Intire, Valerie Oleson, Penny Patton, and Constance Watson. FRONT ROW: Cathy Bay, Rita Blenden, Linda Bradley, Debra Folger, and Carol Mc Adoo. vifgy after they AMN Asian WM .E The faculty and student body voted on these girls, ten top contestants. Later the run- ning Was narrowed to the five finalists by people from the surrounding areas, faculty, and the student body. A dinner was held for the top five finalists Where they were asked to make a speech about themselves. Five judges voted on their speeches, poise, and personaltiy. Mr. Karl Smykil was mas- ter of ceremonies for the 1970 Coronation.
