The squad had determination to play as hard as possible throughout the entire season. They never were behind or ahead. Only three sophomores showed considerable ac- tion for the varsity team. First was Maynard Stuck- ey, who gained much experience during his fresh- man year. Doug Ritz and Rodney Jennings came into the season with less experience, but became valu- able assets to the club, Rob Gerlach, another soph- omore, was kept from seeing any action because of a knee injury. Letter to the Sophomores A Fellow Sophomores: As we look back upon our sophomore year we find many events which hap- pened in the world and close to home, that had a great bearing on us as young men and women. First, let us remember a few happenings from our last junior college year, our sophomore year, 1970- 1971. Our Tiger football team finished the season with a six win and four loss record. Ron Wilkey, the leagues leading tackler, was cited for his outstanding performance by gaining all-american recognition as well as being chosen as an all-conference defensive back. Also in the fall another of our fellow sophomores gained recognition. During the Arkalalah celebration, Rita Blenden, was crowned Alalah XXXIX. Next came winter and along with winter came basketball season. Despite being inex- perienced, our juco roundballers showed confidence and hustled to finish with a fine season. Pertaining to athletics, there were two disasters which saddened everyone. The events were the plane crashes of the Wichita State University football team and Marshall football team and followers. In these disasters over 100 people lost their lives. In November, Kansas voters broke tradition by electing Robert Docking for an unprecedented 3rd term as governor. As sophomores we have learned to make decisions and we have gained knowledge through experience. Each event in our sophomore year has had a special meaning to each of us, some more meaningful than others, according to one's own interests. Graduation brought on a feeling of completion and one of anticipation for the future and what it holds for each of us as graduates. Paul Allen, President of sophomore class 50 President of the class, Paul Allen, helped with the Day Care Center at Central Christian Church.
