Poetry By Denise Grimes Poetry- Expressing, revealing Writing, searching, feeling Poetry has to be felt. Poetry War Chant By Janet Payne I feel no fear for I have walked the paths of Hell I've seen fire never ending heard the death knell. Rivers of blood have flowed 'round me. Specters, writhing in agony, raising up from the river. Their ravaged faces match the battered places where once they lived ... Time By Carol LeClaire Time, like slow, steady drops of rain, Settling on my shoulders Weighing me down. There is a vacuum ... a void Where here should be feeling and concern. But I feel only emptiness. Sometimes I do feel horror When I see a human being degrade his brother. It happens everyday, you know. Then I look at myself in disbelief After I have LAUGHED at the old man Lying in the street, mumbling to himself And cradling his bottle. I know that I will have to turn to Him. Maybe tomorrow ... The Desert By Ellen Oakes The sands Of the desert Go on And on. Like flowing waters It seems To have No end. Snakes Welcome the growing Of the darkness Of the cool Nights As it Becomes Quiet And The sun slowly drops Out of sight. And once again The desert Is lonely Quiet And desert. Judge Not . . . By Janet Payne Please, listen to what I've said. Don't turn around and walk away, But understand, what I've tried to explain, to say. You can't always change night to day. Judge me not alway by what I've seemed or by the dramas that you've dreamed But Learn to know ... me. Grass By Teresa Kochell Grass Green, soft Sways, grows, smells Mowers cut it Grass Sea By Elmer Ricketts Sea Fast, runs on Rages, kills, hurts Very beautiful, but a in disguise Rain By Carol LeClaire A soft, shimmery curtain covering people's faces; their emotions .., hidden behind a comforting, gray sheet of solace to the relentless, ageless world of cold, bright happiness. Wouldn't it be nice to fall backwards into a barrelful of dove feathers, or to dive feet first into a billowy, white, foam of nothingness and sleep? Payments Due By Trina Kinneer Your dealin' with the devil And a price you'll someday pay When you think your really living, but your souls been cast away. You've given up your body for a stupid little game cause all your really wanting is the fortune and the fame. This love your feelin' now it will surely disappear for what shall take it's place is just loneliness and fear. So the devils cornin' out to claim what he now owns Your screamin' and your cryin but soon find your all alone As you shiver in the darkness from this game you had to play you were dealin' with the devil And he cast your soul away. Death's Beckoning By Janet Payne Death is but a step away; fear has gone on its desolate path and I find that I no longer beg life to stay. It beckons with a kill finger. This time no turning back I will not linger. 116 Remember By Trina Kinner Remember the times they gave you When you shared each happy thought. The days you spent together All the presents that you bought. You say they passed away but God just took them from your sight. Their always there beside you, in the darkness and the light. They want you to remember them and the fun you always had the dreams you shared and laughed at and the times they made you mad. so don't forget your friends though they aren't here today because deep inside their with you in a very special way. The wind came whipping through the trees — And now it is all gone. Now I wake to singing birds And see the rays of the golden sun. I see the flowers all red and green And see the tree leaves come awake. I feel the warmth in the air. Oh how I longed for Springtime. It seems like only yesterday I saw the fallen snow. But now I know it's all behind For Springtime now is here. LOVE Love is beautiful. Love hurts. Memories and thoughts remain Of the love we once shared. The laughing, crying, and loving It seems so real and vivid in my mind. And then something tore us apart And I haven't seen you for a long time. But memories and thoughts remain Of the love we once shared. True love hurts. Mine is eternal. IN THE WOODS By Ellen Oakes I walk in the woods listening to nature's sound. The birds in the trees, snakes creeping on the ground. Then the sun goes down and leaves quietness all around. I make my bed of leaves to sleep upon until morning comes, When I'll continue my journey onward bound. YOUR LOVE FOR ME By Carol LeClaire You say you love me More than your life. You want to bring me Happiness . .. And protect me from The big bad world. But, I have to tell you, Instead of comforting me. Your love is Confining me. Don't tell me I'm Wrong. I know I'm right. I'm hardheaded And foolish .. . I know I may Regret this, But I have to go, To find out for Myself. Goodbye. MEMORY PAGE By Linda VanPelt The page is folded, creased with age. Oh! The stories it could tell! If only it could speak Of the stories it knows so well. All the letters it has seen, The tears of old loves, The joys of new friends, All hidden deep inside Helping the broken hearts mend. Oh! if it could speak! The things it would say! Of friendships, joys, and peaceful tears, Of loves gone astray. OLD FRIENDSHIPS Author Unknown Like well-worn pages in some cherished book, Old friendships grow more precious through the years; Like pages long turned yellow with the time. Old memories are so often stained with tears. Like winding paths that lead through little dells, And often thoughts go drifting back once more to well-known spots where old friends used to meet. Like flowers pressed in pages of a book. Old friendships are well guarded on the way; Within fond hearts, where nothing can destroy, Old friendships live forever and a day ... THE SHORTEST STORY IN THE WORLD Author Unknown Algie Had a Bear The Bear was Bulgie The Bulge was Algie. 126 FAREWELL By Robin Birge Farewell to the town Where 1 would always play. Farewell to the school Where I have gone every day. Farewell, my friend, Don't be so sad. We've shared so much. Some good, some bad. Good-bye, my brother. By the grave where he lay, I will always remember The things we used to say. So long, memories. I'll always remember you. You'll always be there In everything I do. Goodbye, my love, I'll miss you more than I can write. So sad I will be, Not being with you every night. The tears are falling As I leave. You may hear me calling While I grieve. Farewell, old life. Farewell. 127 A THANKS FOR ENCOURAGEMENT PENNY S. CONDER ' 'To the Senior Class, the Faculty, and Mr. Mayrnon. The Sec-Treas was Lori Murray. 148 Richard Ashton Mr. Ashton, delivering a message at the United Methodist Church, quoted CHARLES STELTZER, when he stated this philosophy of life: I believe in my job. It may not be a very important job, but it's MINE. No other man can take my place. It isn't a big place, that's for sure, but it's my place. I believe in my fellow man. He may not agree with me all the time. I'd feel sorry for him if he did, because I myself do not believe some of the things that were absoultly sure in my mind a few years ago ... I believe in my country. I believe in it because it is made up of my fellow men, and myself. I can't go back on either and be true to my creed. I believe in my home. It isn't the greatest home. It wouldn't satisfy some folks, but it contains jewels which could not be purchased in the markets of the world ... Its motto is service; its reward is love. There is no other spot in the world which fills its place, and Heaven can only be a larger home with a father who is all wise and patient and tender. I believe in today. It is all that I possess. The past is of value only as it can make the life of today fuller and freer. There is no assurance of tommorrow. I must make good today! Memories Of Hellen Poems By: Hellen Leak When, can I be what I want? ME! Together we are each day loving, living, caring our love is special, only we know forever. And now, the city begins it's day ... destruction. When the night time closes in and the lonliness begins, 1 believe you'd round to be here if you could. Blazer trail back to your heart and you'll know that from the start we have been together long enough to see. All the hard times take their toll as they try to rob my soul of the precious gift of love you give to me, There's a song in the breeze hear it singin through the trees as it blows along you another tune. Time can heal so I've been told if you believe it you'll go home all the time we need together's cornin' soon. Green Grass And High Tides Any place you wanna dream of where your soul is always free silver stages, golden curtains filled by it playin' have to be. As a rainbow grew around the sun all my stars above to guide me with somewhere beyond the seen to see, the ugly people play just for me. If I take you to this place where stories all ring true. Will you let me past your face to see what's really you? It's not for me 1 ask these questions As tho 1 were a king. For you have to love, believe and feel before the burst of tamborines can take you there. Green Grass and High Tides forever Castles of stone sold in glory. Lost faces said we adored you. As kings and Queens bow and play for you. Those who do believe in me, find their souls and set them free. Those who do believe in love. Time will be your key. Time and time again I begged her for a peace of mind. I hope to find myself among the music and the rythm. 1S2 Let it take you there ... Scott Woodrow These pages are dedicated in memory of those who have meant so much to each of us. Let us each hold their memories close and never lose them. And even though we are sad at our loss, let's be thankful for the time we had together. And each day listen to the words that they seem to be saying to us: Go on living your lives to the fullest, walk on, and we will be beside you. MEMORIES Remember the smiles and each strong embrace, Remember the laughter and each suntanned face. Remember the tears and each fiendish grin. Remember those eyes and cute dimpled chin. Remember the parties and dress-up affairs. Remember the good times because they were there. Remember the sunshine, remember the rain. Remember the good things, but forget the pain. C.
