Football The Covington Trojans had another great football season in 1974. The Trojans were 8-2 for the season and tied for first in the Wabash River Conference with Southmont with a 7-1 record. They also won the Bi-County with victories over Seeger, Fountain Central and Attica. One of the major accomplishments of this year's squad was that they were the first school to defeat both Southmont and North Montgomery in the same year and the Trojans did it in back to back games. Seven men from Covington were named to the WRC all-conference team which set another record for most players off of one team in the WRC named to the all-conference was Jeff Dennis, Barry Elliott, Gary Myers, Dave Vincent, Charlie Roarks, Jim Hardy, and Jeff Woodrow. The Trojans on the Bi-County team were Mark Ellmore, Jeff Kindell, Steve Starkey, Ken Cope, Gary Myers, Dave Vincent, and Jim Hardy. Tri-Captains, for 1974 were, Gary Myers, Kirk Adams and Jim Hardy. Both individual career and season records were broken this year. Charlie Roarks connected on 17 of 24 PAT's for a percentage of .708. Roarks also had 37 kickoffs for a total of 1824 yards for a record of 49.2 yards per kick. Roarks had a career total of 48 kicks for 2344 yards for a 48.8 average per kick. In the receiving department Brad Dunham caught 5 passes for a record 116 yards in one game against North Putnam. Gary Myers broke Bill Ludlow's individual career scoring record. Myers scored 162 points to Ludlow's 152. In career passing, Kirk Adams completed 82 of 196 for .418 percentage. Adams threw 15 touchdown passes and a total of 1375 yards. (L-R) Gary Myers, Jim Hardy, and Kirk Adams On defense Kirk Adams had a career pass interception record of 13. There were many more outstanding totals for the 1974 Trojans. During the three-year varsity football career for the fifteen seniors, the varsity record was 24-6, with no losses given up to schools in the Bi-County. The varsity season record was 8-2 for the third consecutive year with seven consecutive WRC wins including victories over North Montgomery and Southmont. For varsity Coach Hunter, his coaching record is 50-19-1 for .714 winning percentage and he has a WRC coaching mark of 44-11 -1 for a .785 winning percentage.
