CROSS COUNTRY 1971 saw many young men running their hearts out to win. Under the firm hand of Coach Bell, some old records were broken, and some new records were set. Sophomore Gale Van Pelt broke the old course record of 9:58 minutes with a terrific time of 9:51.8 minutes. For his great running, not only atthat meet, but others, Gale was voted Most Valuable Player by his teammates. The many long and seemingly unendurable hours of running paid off as Captain Randy Gritten led his team to many victorious outings. Eight boys lettered including Seniors Randy Gritten, Dave Allen, and Stan Gross; Junior. 19
