together 1972 TROJAN COVINGTON ______________ HIGH rr In our bustling and high-colored society, we encounter people from all spheres of life. The awareness to the dress and drug problems of our younger set has led us to overlook that the youth of today still have vibrant personalities. Brimming with our own greedy conceit, we lose sight of others. We decide, instead of sharing ourselves with others, to hide behind masks of illusion and pass by . . . let’s get together We have neglected our responsibilities long enough. It is now that we must shed our shields of enchantment and join the Age of Today, the constantly moving age to understanding and progress. Toward . . . togetherness Even as students we are confronted with a Generation Gap. Although 500 of us are tossed together, we must reveal ourselves as genuine individuals as we strive to . . . get together together The pulse of Covington High School is determined by the athletic adrenalin secreted into its system by sports. On every level and involving everyone, whether in competition or complacency, by teams or by individuals, in beauty, in speed, in endurance, in voice, and in spirit, the sports approximate a common denominator for all of us. Those who choose to pay the price of long, hard hours of practice and discipline are few The best of these bask in public acclaim, but they are the first to pass praises along to teammates whose careers are less glamorous The recognition of this brotherhood enables the best aspects of athletics to be appreciated by competitors and spectators. Regardless of willful association with the athletic programs of CHS, everyone is involved. Because the jerseys, sweaters, and jackets carry the Trojan C, all those who indentify with Covington in any fashion share in the successes and failures, the pride and humility of our sports. Whatever the connotation of sports,” whether the athletes, their coaches, the cheerleaders, the managers, the fans, the fanatics in praise or in complaint, it is vital to all of us and throbs through us together. the sports HOMECOMING Hours seemed but minutes, as many of us awaited the arrival of our final Homecoming. For some of us, it came too soon and left too quickly. Plans for this traditional event commenced almost as soon as the beginning of the new school year. Classmates whispered their float ideas, worried about which queen candidate their boyfriends would get to kiss, and made preparations for the parade and dance. The halls of CHS literally tingled with excitement as the day drew nearer. ANTICIPATION, ENTHUSIASM, With the arrival of Homecoming, came the gleeful cries of the Sophomores when their float was announced as the winner. Queen candidates and attendants were tearfully anticipating the moment when they would take their final steps down the fifty-yard line. Cheers of acclamation arose from the stands as Raquel Hunt was crowned as our new queen. Adding finishing touches to this special evening, our football team scrambled the Attica Ramblers. On cloud nine, the fans danced the night away to the tune of Russell, Briggs, and Beck. 10 EXCITEMENT, SUSPENSE, JOY! BANG! We did it again, we did it again, WE WON, WE WON! “How will we keep that mob in their seats? I hope I do not fall off the ladder when I cut the net! Gosh, I hope my legs last during the pep session.” Thoughts such as these ran through our minds as the TROJANS stole another trophy . . I Imagine 191 girls all dressed in gold jumpers, 382 black gloves flying, blocks sounding off, and shouting voices! This was the picture the Golden Girls impressed in the minds of all those who attended the games. Putting a special stress on straight arms, definite motions, and their squad gymnastic stunts, this year’s cheerleaders, consisting of five squads, led the fans with enthusiasm. But cheerleading was not all fun and glory, there were a lot of hard-working hours behind those yells, stunts, chants, and signs. It took the combined efforts of Miss Davis, the pep club officers, cheerleaders, and girls to make such an outstanding organized group. w (ABOVE) Officers are Miss Davis; J. Grubb, Pres.; C. THANK YOU, THANK YOU 17 GALE AND THE TEAM—WINNERS Sophomore Gale Van Pelt, exhausted, strides across the finish line, breaking the school record and setting a new course record with the astonishing time of 9:51.8. 18 Varsity team members first row from left to right are J. Davan, S. Gross, D. Allen, R. Gritten. G. Clawson. SECOND ROW: G. Van Pelt, D. Williams, D. Poer, D. Holiowell, and Coach Bell. CROSS COUNTRY 1971 saw many young men running their hearts out to win. Under the firm hand of Coach Bell, some old records were broken, and some new records were set. Sophomore Gale Van Pelt broke the old course record of 9:58 minutes with a terrific time of 9:51.8 minutes. For his great running, not only atthat meet, but others, Gale was voted Most Valuable Player by his teammates. The many long and seemingly unendurable hours of running paid off as Captain Randy Gritten led his team to many victorious outings. Eight boys lettered including Seniors Randy Gritten, Dave Allen, and Stan Gross; Junior. 19 Junior Varsity team members first row from left to right are D. Hollowell. R. Hanley, M. Pearson, B. CONTRIBUTED Greg Clawson; and Sophomores Gale Van Pelt, David Williams, Dave Hollowell, and Joe Davan. Most Improved Player proved to be a little, long-haired Freshman named Bruce Gritten. Besides all the regular meets, the Trojan harriers finished second in the Bismark, Illinois Invitational and defended the Bi-County title. The Trojans set their goals high at the beginning of the season and came near to reaching them. These young men decked the trophy cases with hard earned prizes, but more than this, these guys helped create pride in ourselves and our school. 20 ABOVE. VARSITY FOOTBALL: ALWAYS ABLE AND VICIOUS, NEVER OUTCLASSED What makes a team? Eleven guys, four coaches, managers, and teamwork. There were many long hours of hard, sweating practices. Their muscles ached and raw blisters burned. Much was sacrificed, but that was forgotten when everything was gained. The proud parents, the faithful student body, and the faculty sometimes wavered in confidence and spirit, but somehow always were seen at the games. One may not have seen the team’s tearful eyes or have heard the pep block’s loud cheers or even felt the tenseness of the fans, but these things made this team—our team. The faces of co-captains Bill Ricketts and Bryan Allen showed the satisfaction of Trojan victories. 22 Teamwork was an important characteristic that was not lacking in the CHS sports criteria this year. Without the combined efforts of the managers, coaches, and players, the Mighty Trojans could not have had such a successful season. 23 STELLAR SENIORS The seniors now look back to a memorable season, one that was filled with enthusiasm and enjoyment as well as the rugged and exhausting practices. Each man made a whole-hearted attempt to make his last season his best. Chuck Davis (RIGHT) was leading pass receiver and yardage leader in individual punt returns. Bob Hoagland (LEFT) had an outstanding record of individual kick-offs. Gene Keller, a lineman, was one of the returning lettermen who helped lead us to success. Tom Masulis as a lineman finished the season with the highest number of tackles and fumble recoveries. Returning letterman Bryan Allen led his team as quarterback. 24 Senior stars such as Alan McConnell, Dennis Murray, Rick Grubb, and Bill Ricketts led the almighty Trojans. Co-captain Bryan Allen (BELOW) checks out the line before a play. Back Rick Grubb (LEFT) assisted the team with his efforts in kick-off and punt returns. Co-captain Bill Ricketts was selected by his teammates as Most Valuable Player. Alan McConnell towered over many of his opponents and served as an example to underclass players. Dennis Murray stopped rival threats with his agile movements and superior tackles. 25 FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE The Junior Varsity team members (SHOWN BELOW) first row left D. Vincent, J. Kindell. B. Ping, The Junior Varsity football team, coached by Mr. Ashton and Mr. Partezana, was faced with a challenging schedule. The mini-Trojans fought their way through the season and finished it with a 1-5 final season mark. This squad was composed mostly of sophomores with some freshmen and juniors. They played Fountain Central, N. Vermillion, Rockville, N. Putnam, Southmont, and N. Montgomery, of whom they beat N. Vermillion 32-2. Although their record was low, this team has benefited greatly from their playing experience and will tremendously help next year’s Varsity team. 26 As a mini Trojan is grasped, teammates arrive to help him “overcome” an attempted tackle by a stubborn and persisting foe. Gale Van Pelt tears through the string with tremendous power as only Gale can do. Senior Dave Allen (LOWER LEFT) receives vigorous applause from enthusiastic Trojan fans as he moves across the line for a first place finish. Bryan Allen (LOWER RIGHT) runs with all his heart for an exhuberant finish in the number one spot. The track team, consisting mostly of Sophomores and Freshmen, had a commendable season, winning two meets. The relay team of Dave Allen. Bryan Allen. Gary Myers, and Gale Van Pelt set a new record of 3:38.5. This qualified the relay team for the Sectional, but most improved player Kenny Drollinger was substituted for Dave at Sectional time. Kenny also qualified for the high jump. Most Valuable player Gale Van Pelt qualified for the Sectional in the 440 and the 880. Coach Frank Bell was enthusiastic about the success of our young team. Vicki Talbert and Gary Howard served remarkably well as statisticians. 35 KEEP ON TRACKIN’ Standing proudly (RIGHT) are the Senior members of the team that served as captains. Dave Allen, Stanley Gross, and Bryan Allen were excellent leaders of a team that was truly motivated, as shown in the picture below. Since the Freshmen composed the majority of the track team, they carried a heavy responsibility when they went into competition. These rookies did an outstanding job, and Gary Myers (LEFT) was a fine representative of this group. Gary was one of the members of the record-setting relay team. GOLF: A NEW SPORT Covington kept pace with the conference by sending its first golf team to the links in the sport’s initial conference season. The Trojans sliced their share of respect from the veteran squads representing other schools. Hardly a spectator sport, the contestants are paired and play the course together, depending mainly on the honor system for scoring strokes. The total strokes used by the five team members determine the team victor. 38 Varsity Golf Team members are kneeling, left to right: L. Compton, B. Carter, G. Kiger, and standing: Coach Rater, D. Although error-laden early conference losses extinguished hopes for a conference championship, the team came back by sectional time to be a solid contender. The hot bats of Chuck Davis. This year the club was more active than ever before. The girls started the year off by learning skills on the trampoline which they had purchased in late spring with money from candy sales. In early fall, softball was the first major sport. Two teams, a varsity and a freshman team, were formed. Behind the superb pitching of Debbie Crowder the varsity won all four of their games, playing Attica and North Vermillion each twice. The freshmen gals won one of their two games with Attica. There were three volleyball teams, a varsity, a reserve, and a freshman team, of whom all played excellent ball. The varsity team went on to win their district, defeating West Lafayette in the final game. This win enabled them to go to the semifinals on the following Saturday, where they received a fourth place ribbon. 43 Varsity basketball team members are from left to right FIRST ROW: J. Hardy. M. After the formal initiation, the girls returned to the multipurpose room for the fun-initiation and an hour of play activity. December was the month the girls started basketball practice. The many long hours of practice proved worthwhile as the girls played seventeen games ending with a good record of eleven wins and six losses. Their best varsity game was against Seeger when the Trojanettes defeated the Seeger gals for their only loss of their year. The varsity and reserve teams played North Vermillion, Attica, and Seeger two games each, while they played Rockville, Lafayette Central Catholic, Crawfordsville, and Tuttle Jr. High only once. To finish the year the girls played more volleyball, softball, and added track with a little archery and tennis. His speech was quite different from the traditional stiff, good luck speeches with which the athletes, coaches, and parents are usually confronted. Laughing never ceased from the moment that this man started to talk until he concluded his speech. Along with the speaker, the dinner contributed its share to making the banquet a success. Coaches Bell, Hunter, Ashton, Hobaugh, and Rater presented trophies and acknowledged the outstanding participation of the students of CHS in the athletic field. Thanks to the Pep Club members and officers, cheerleaders, and Miss Davis, the 72 Sports Banquet will remain in our memories. I almost didn't get here tonight. Rather, the personality of CHS, virtuous or otherwise, depends directly and exclusively on its people. The people of our school are as disjoined as are the various aspects of human nature, as unlike as the talents and interests that indicate individuality; but these same individuals count as one in at least this overriding consideration—they are Covington High School. As students, club members, teachers, administrators, secretaries, janitors, counselors, helpers, sponsors, officers, cooks, bus drivers, and recipients of special honors, the people of CHS shaped 1971-72 into an unchangeable reality that has been sealed in memories. When our functions were positive, we made progress; our failures did not thwart our positive thrusts. Like our common identity, our accomplishments taught us the necessity of interdependence. Through trial and error the people of CHS learned to be the people together. the people QUILL SCROLL For those who climb the highest in student journalism there is a special honor. YEARBOOK STAFF Hey! It’s Tuesday. Everybody knows that Tuesday is the day that the yearbook staff “gets together for some cokes, fun, and a lot of hard work on the side. Getting out a yearbook isn’t easy, but having guys on the staff this year sure helps a lot. To meet a deadline, Cheryl or Judy might have to use her authority to get the staff on the ball, but everyone understands and forgives. Co-editors Cheryl Ford and Judy Cline were the brains behind this f yearbook. They stayed to work after school all the time. No wonder the book is great. Janet McConnell swept all three first places in the first year division at the publications workshop at Plainfield. Maybe that's why Mr. Ailes calls her Super Janet.” St 52 Members of Hi-Y FRONT, from Left to Right: H. Keller. M. Carr. M. Pearson. Sec.-Treas.; R. Hanley, T. Starkey, M. Gross, R. Vincent. BACK: T. Caroling at the nursing home, selling favors, preparing Christmas baskets, and cleaning cemeteries are just a few of the things we did to help others. Jealousy and disappointment arose among some of the students after failing to receive the parts they had anticipated. Receiving the leading role made Lorry happy because this was her chance to become a star. The idea of Jocko taking over Andy’s girlfriend did not quite appeal to him. THE MOUSE THAT ROARED Our leading characters, Barb Hegg as Gloriana and Walt Fletcher as Tully Bascom, wave to cheering subjects. If there ever was a mouse that roared, it did on the night of the Junior Class Play. The basic plot of the play was not the usual slap-stick comedy like most class plays. The comedy was an unrealistic political farce. The irony of the story was that the small country five miles long by three miles wide called Grand Fenwick declared war on the United States of America. The reason for the war was that the wineries in California were making a wine like that of Grand Fenwick. They were using the same label, but instead of calling it Pinot Grand Fenwick, they called it Pinot Grand Enwick. Grand Fenwick declared war on the United States, expecting to be beaten. They figured that the United States would then try to rehabilitate their country by giving them factories, new machines, and more money. As it turned out, the Fenwickian soldiers marched into New York City, captured a general, two wacs, a professor, and a powerful bomb that could destroy half of Europe. The capturing of the bomb caused Grand Fenwick to be victorious in their invasion. In the settlement between the United States and Grand Fenwick, the United States paid the indemnity of one million dollars. The bomb was left in the hands of Grand Fenwick to be feared by the world. Mrs. Hegg and Mr. Ashton were the directors of the play. They found that the hardest job was to get the kids to act serious enough to practice. Due to the patience of the directors and the hard work of all, the play came together and was quite a success. Professor Kokintz reveals the valuable formula for the exceedingly powerful Q” bomb. 62 Mountjoy, played by Tony Barker, made everyone aware of the air raid by loudly clanging his bell. With purple as the dominant color, the Juniors worked the theme “Summer of 72” into a very beautiful and special evening. Following a delicious dinner catered by the Beef House, the Juniors, Seniors, and other honored guests strolled into the Multi-Purpose Room where the Leo Baxter Band was waiting to entertain them. The constant flash of cameras, the many trips to the punch bowl, and watching the teachers dance added to the excitement of this formal event. All too soon it was time for the Grand March which was led by Miss Debbie Randolph and Jeff Mason, last year's Prom Royalty. The highlight of the evening was when Miss Jean Grubb and Dave Allen were crowned the new queen and king. Before we knew it the bewitching hour of midnight had arrived, and “nothing now is left but Majestic Memory. 69 Enjoying much delicious food and playing exciting games were only two of the many fun-filled happenings of the afterprom. Many people learned of their futures by talking to the fortune teller. AFTER-PROM Again this year, the Coffeenians planned, decorated, and hosted the annual after-prom party. And what a party it was! Dancing to the music of The Grave,” playing new and different games, winning many unusual prizes, and enjoying each others’ company provided a wonderful time for everyone who attended the afterprom. The Coffeenians used Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn as the theme for decorating. A cave for all to investigate and a lady fortune teller were only two of the exciting happenings at the party. Gail Goodrich seems to enjoy playing Skittle de Dittle. Before we knew it, the countdown had come to one day which was Senior Day—our last day to walk down the halls of CHS. We were the envy of all our underclassmates because we looked as if we were so happy about the forthcoming event — Graduation. Underneath those smiles, however, were tears of sadness at the thought of leaving all of our memories and friends behind and fear about what the future had in store for us. Knowing that soon we would be expected to accept adult challenges—we took advantage of our special day and lived it up. Dressing crazy, playing tricks on our classmates, and just messing around with our friends helped us to face the reality of tomorrow when there would be a new game to play — the game of life and survival. We wanted to hold this day forever because we realized that there would never be another today or yesterday. Taking the last steps of their high school career, Cheryl Ford and Jon Alyea happily anticipated the moment when they would receive their diplomas. 73 Graduation—the long awaited day—finally arrived, but it was somehow different from what we had anticipated. It was supposed to be a happy day, but few Seniors were seen smiling as the chorus sang at the Baccalaureate service and Rev. Moore spoke about “Peace.” This could not be the same class of students who were squirting others with water guns and just plain creating bedlam only yesterday. It seemed as if we had turned into adults overnight. Laden-down with a carnation and diploma, we moved our tassle from right to left as the Class of '72 got together for the last time. Jean Grubb (ABOVE) read the Scriptures preparatory to the Rev. Ernest Moore's (RIGHT) Baccalaureate sermon entitled Peace. The class motto appears across the stage behind Jean and Miss Smith. The Honorable Allen Sharp (LEFT), Judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals, addressed the Commencement audience concerning the inevitability of involvement and the responsibility of moral decisions. Unafraid of the future, Nick Linville (ABOVE) happily accepted his diploma from Superintendent Holstine. Cindy Green (RIGHT) accepted a helping hand as she stepped out of high school. Their seasonal selections brightened the Christmas OR CONCERT and Easter festivities. In addition, they played host to the annual Choral Festival and contributed to the successful Spring Show. 76 The Concert Choir, drawn by audition from the combined choristers, aired their talents by vocalizing special numbers at the regular performances. They also presented musical programs in area churches as specialties and as a part of regular worship services. Eighteen of these songsters earned spots at the State Choral Festival. Mrs. Williams, choral director and President of the Indiana Choral Festival Association, shared in the honors bestowed on Rick Burgoyne, who sang his way to membership in the All State Choir, and given her Girls’ Trio, who merited a first division rating in state competition. 77 ROCK SOUND 72 Doug Shelby reads “Duty, Honor, Country. Participation from students, faculty, parents, band director Mr. Bosche, chorus director Mrs. Williams, and the many others who helped in any way with the Spring Show made it possible for the band and chorus to present the Spring Show of 1972. ONE SHARP BAND The marching band got it all together many times this year under the new band director, Mr. Bosche, by performing at football games during half time shows and in various parades. Marching in the Fall Foliage Festival Parade at Martinsville, Indiana, created an opportunity for the 1971 Marching Band of CHS to capture one of their three trophies this year. The other two trophies were awarded to the band after placing high as one of the top performing bands and as the “Best Sound” band in the Crawfordsville Jaycees Christmas Parade. The concert band was fortunate this year in being able to tour St. Louis, Missouri, for three days. The band members enjoyed visiting historical places such as the Jefferson Memorial, the Old Court House, which was the setting for the Dred Scott Case, and the farm that once belonged to Ulysses S. Grant. An added attraction to the CHS band this year was the 1971-72 Senior Band Queen Susan Stam-baugh. Having a band carnival to earn money for tour was also another new event. Buy! Buy!” These words became a familiar sound to many basketball fans as the Juniors strove to earn money for the Prom. After they raised the price of their cokes and finally learned how to operate the popcorn machine, the money came pouring in. The Juniors and their sponsors saved and counted every penny like misers. In the end, it all paid off. Forming committees, planning colors and the theme, painting murals and carefully decorating the gym were just a few of the preparations that were necessary to make the Prom a memorable and special evening. “Fun-loving was the Juniors’ middle name. Acting in the play, participating in pep session skits, making a giant peace sign, and decorating for the Prom helped the Juniors to realize that teamwork was a necessary and important part in their lives. Their Junior year was a wonderful time full of new experiences which got the Class of 73 together. This can best describe the feelings of the Class of 74 following their second year of high school. The Sophs started the year right by capturing first prize for their homecoming float. Their theme, “What You See Is What You Get,” captivated the hearts of both judges and fans. As is the case for every Sophomore class, they got together and ordered their class rings. Never ones to follow the crowd, the Class of 74 chose a style all their own. Exchanging rings, breaking up, laughing, crying and just living characterized the Sophomore scene. This class dared to be different and got the year together in their own way. They took their victories and disappointments in stride. Although the Freshman class was the youngest class, they became involved with their new school life. Senior Band and Chorus, new seats in the Pep Block, and new organizations were just a few of the steps that marked their progress into high school. The greatest thrill of being a Freshman was building their first homecoming float. The slogan for this year was “Nail 'Em Down.” The Class of 75 played a large part in creating school spirit. There were over 75 classes offered to the students. A mini-course is a concentrated, short-term learning activity usually related to a single concept or topic of study. The idea of the Free Form Education Week with such classes is the product of the student council. The president of the Student Council, Bob Hoagland, and Mark Hanley, student council member, have supervised and organized the program. The council operated the program and handled the huge amount of paperwork, spending many hours of work each day planning and working. The objectives of the program were to provide new learning opportunities and additional educational experiences, as well as to evaluate potential courses for implementation in the traditional” program of studies. A further goal was to create emphasis on the student as an individual in an educational program. There are few rules pertaining to the classes. There was not any homework or grades given. No student was to have a free period, and all classes were to be co-ed, unless otherwise specified. Guest instructors were not paid, and some qualified students were allowed to teach certain classes. For pre-registering, the students themselves were asked what sort of classes they would like to have. From this, the council set about getting all that was available. While registering, the students were advised to take a variety of classes and those which they knew nothing of. The classes were taught by a variety of instructors. A mortuary science class was taught by David Bodine of Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home. Photography and film-development was taught by Deraid Ailes, yearbook adviser, while trampoline was taught by Art Boshe and Mrs. Georgeanna Ford. Some other courses offered were law, racial prejudice, sex education, karate, communism, bowling, boys' home economics, real estate, drug abuse, ceramics, antiquing, horsemanship and knitting. The Mini-Course Week was a great opportunity for everyone at Covington. The free form education program was a good experiment that allowed individuals to come into contact with other fields of study, which they may be interested or involved with in later life. The copy on this page was written for the Hi-Time section of the Commercial-News for which Janet McConnell was awarded first prize. We congratulate her and let it stand as the sole commentary on this Student Council project pictured on the following pages. 120 121 122 together The Middle School educationally embraced an increased enrollment last year. It brought together pupils from grades five through eight. From the farthest borders of the school corporation, students were integrated socially through classroom participation and extracurricular activities. The first pangs of adolescence appeared as fan bus rides and first dates gave new meaning to togetherness. Team play and interscholastic competition channeled anxious aggressions into athletic prowess. It began to make a difference whether the person sitting next to you at lunch was a boy or a girl. There was also the togetherness that transcends tangible things. A feeling of pride and concern for our class, our school, our projects, our band, our chorus, our awards and an honest look at ourselves, our talents, our weaknesses, our triumphs and our failures drew us together from within and without. the middle school NEW GOALS, CHALLENGES AND ACHIEVEMENTS FACULTY Mr. Dale Clawson, Principal of the Middle School; B.S., M.S. Its life is reflected in the vitality of the school as a whole. The students and staff directly inject themselves and their families, neighbors, and friends into the school environment, bringing with them the shared attitudes of all the people of Covington. School-centered activities are the clockwork of the community, something every day, hopefully for everyone. The awards accumulated by the student body mirror the talents that are nurtured among our citizens, from an insignificant certificate to a scholarship worth thousands. And all that each student studies and strives to become is little more than an extension of the ambitions and dreams of every member of the Covington community. This book is written to compile the many and varied achievements of the students. Whether small or great, each distinction gained brings honor to our school and through the school to our community. In this positive manner we build a unity of lasting value. We stand one for all. One has taken us by proxy to the spotlight of state and national glamor. Carla Miller, Miss Indiana Teen-Ager 1971, rightfully glows with personal pride and deep gratitude for the title awarded to her. But her triumph represents the united efforts of her family and the whole community, especially those who helped to finance her trip to the national pageant. Thanks to this hard work, there are more special effects, more pages, and more color in the 1972 TROJAN. Many long hours of tiring work have gone into making this yearbook a success. This book could not have been possible without the help of many people. We. the Staff and adviser, wish to thank all of the teachers who have cooperated this past year by letting staff members out of class to work on the annual. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Craig, Mrs. Williams, and Mr. Branham for excusing the co-editors from their classes so often. We also wish to thank the janitors for locking up after us, opening up for us, and being so careful throwing things out. We not only received help from staff members, but also from non-members. Mary Murphy and Gail Hoffman contributed to the Sophomore class and the Ecology copy. William's Colorcraft deserves a special thanks for doing such a fine job on the color pictures and for going out of their way to assist us. We wish to thank the parents of the Staff for allowing their children to work after school and for making the special trips to town to pick them up after work sessions. We also wish to thank our Inter-Collegiate Press representative, Dave Young, for helping us plan our book. This man endured a late plane, a flat tire, a car accident, and a knee operation for his attempts to frequently visit our school. We, the co-editors, wish to express a very sincere and cordial Thank you to our parents, who have patiently waited supper on us many nights and boosted our spirits when deadlines had to be met. Without these four people’s love and understanding, this book would never have been finished. All of us thank Mrs. Ailes for surprising us with delicious brownies and caramel corn at some of our meetings. Last but not least we thank our adviser. Mr. Ailes. and the Staff. Our Staff included Lynn Drake, Janet McConnell, Nancy Warrick, Cindy Dennis, Debbie Carr, Susan Stambaugh, Joanne Orr, Donna Woodrow, Cindy Suzuki, Barbara Hegg, John Sanders, Bruce Rainey, Judy Lewis, Vickey Talbert, Mike Pearson, Dot Miller, Jay Linville, Lynn Brockway, and Janette Sanders.
