Consisting of four members, the first class graduated in 1881, after two years of instruction by the superintendent. In 1884, Superintendent V. E. Livengood increased the required time of study to three years and this course included such studies as trigonometry, astronomy, and political science. Until 1891, the superintendent had been the only faculty member, but at this time Miss Lethea Fertich became the first principal of the High School. Superintendent W. P. Hart increased the required time of study to four years in 1895. During the next few years, two classes entered and graduated from the High School in the same year, but in 1912, the plan of one graduating class per year was adopted again for further use by W. A. Davis. The High School Teaching Staff was increased to three teachers in 1895 and on May 8, 1897, the State Board of Education commissioned the High School. The Covington Schools formed a joint school corporation with Troy Township in 1945. In 1948, this corporation formed another corporation with Mound Township of Warren County. At the present time the Covington Community High School is classified by the State of Indiana, a first class commissioned high school, and it is accredited by the N. C. A. of colleges and secondary schools. There are three hundred and two students under its administration and sixteen faculty members on its teach- ing staff. -6- i 'ax
