The opportunities for self-expression offered by the Hnglish Department are unlimited. The five years ' analyses of grammar and mechanics give each student a thorough dose of this phase of English. However, grammatical structure is not the only point stressed. All five years are packed with literature, contemporary and classic. Thus stu- dents. growing in appreciation for great pieces of literature, develop a taste for good books. Of course, self-expression blossoms in com- position. Again opportunities vary; all areas of composition are included in the writing program. With varied offerings, boring English classes do not exist at CHS. Mrs. V irginia W .
