A Word - Before We Begin Two ofthe basic industries of civilization Q paper making and printing -- are combined to bring you this record of Covington High Schools activities in 194748. Paper making and printing are the foundation stones upon which art, science, industry, and com- merce are built. School life in its present form could not exist without these basic industries. Together they form the pathway over which travels that which is worthy of thought and record. Much of the culture that is Americais today can be traced to the introduction of the paper making art in Philadelphia in i690 . . . to the comrr ' of thoughts and ideas of great men on paper. The progress of paper making -W and its com- panions, education and culture, is typified in our own town by the development of the paper industry which is a constant reminder of the place paper plays in modern living. For nearly half a century this great industry has provided the raw materials for great books, magazines, and newspapers which have been so powerful a force in the intellectual betterment of the peoples of this nation.
