A bond is a group of people working together as one unit. That seemed to be the theme for this year's Buccaneer Band. Practicing about three hours a day, in all kinds of weather, helped us to work together and perform as one unit. The high point of this year's season was improving a total of 28 points in contest ratings. What was all the work for? Part of the band's job is to help promote spirit at games and pep rallies. This is where we showed our true colors. All the hard work finally paid off, as many people say that there was a remarkable im- provement in the band. 3. 6. 1. Class Play 29 A Break in the Routine Most people ore settled into o basic routine by the time they ore Seniors. It's usually fast-paced and includes getting up almost every morning and going to school. They may to go work, practice, or home after school. These pictures capture a break in the routine. The break may be acting, singing, goofing off or just shoring good times with friends. Graduation 31 Breaking Away From the Routine Graduation . . . the day we've looked forward to ever since we have known what it was and maybe even dreaded if at times. Graduation is the day when we break away from the routine of school life. It's the last time our whole class will be together. As we break away we may feel happy and sad at the same time . . . happy to be on our own and making our own decisions, but sad that we will be leaving some of our friends behind. Robbin passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 1963, five days before her graduation. She had been ill with leukemia for just one week preceding her death. We will remember Robbin for her friendly smile, worm personality, and her will- ingness to do more than her share in whatever activity she was in- volved with. Robbin had love in her heart and she was loved. She was our friend and classmate and will never be forgotten. Robbin's attitude toward life and death shall be an inspiration to every one of us here at Covington High School and to the community. Don Kihm, First Ever SRC Volleyball Champs This year's volleyball ream had another terrific season, as they ended with a final record of 203. They are also the first holders of the volleyball championship in the new SRC league, with a final league record of 7 wins and 0 losses. After their first loss of the season in the first round of the Tippacanoe Invitational the Buccs went on to win the next nine games before losing to a very tough Fairlawn team. They then won the last five games of the regular season. Their last win coming over a strong Lehman team. The outcome of the game determined the league winner. During the game the Buccs were rooted on by a large cheering sec- tion, and the CHS marching band. The Buccs went on to beat Twin Valley South, Cedarville, and Tri-Village before advancing to the final round of a District tournament. There the Buccs were unable to pull out a win, losing 14-16, 14-16. Still the Buccs had an outstanding season, losing on- ly three games, winning the SRC and being District runner-up. 3. 1. The Buccs were now set to play in the Regional finals against Yellow Springs. A victory here would mean a trip to Stare. Several students pointed their faces os a woy of supporting the Mighty Duces. Others wore jerseys or black-and-white clothing. As the post-season gomes went on the Duces stepped ever closer to a possible Store berth, only to be stopped one point short. Even though they didn't make it to state, the Duces poured huge amounts of strength, time, work, and deter- mination into every game. It's easy to see why the Ducconeer tradition stays alive — every year it burns bright with Tourney Fever. 70 Boys Basketball Buccs Reserve and Freshmen Squads have good Seasons This year's reserve ream under Coach Fisher had a successful season. His 26 points earned the Buccs the runner up spot, just 6 points behind the state champs Columbus Wehrle. Covington, however, was not a one man team. Throughout the season the Buccs showed their overall team strength in winning the District championship with 99 points, winning 7 of 8 dual meets, and plac- ing second in six large invitationals.
