S. Phillips In Grateful Recognition of Self Because he is our friend ... encourag- ing, advising, and contributing his warm understanding whenever we need him ... Because he has guided us enthusiasti- cally and often lent us the strength for success ... We are exceedingly proud to dedicate this yearbook to . . Mr. C. S. Phillip 3 A Message From The Editor Dear Fellow Classmates, The 1972 Yearbook is finally bound and complete at last, containing all the important memories of the past year. The memories may be good or bad, happy or sad, but the staff hopes we have included all of them for you; and I, as editor, wish to thank the staff and especially Mrs. Pritchard for all their efforts. It is through their cooperation, that these long hours have been filled with happy reflections. Reflections of the past are constantly creeping into our minds. As the years and experiences progress, these memories become a living part of us. 1972 was a very good year with many happy memories. Because we know everything isn't expected to be handed to us on a silver platter, we also suffer a few hardships. As each of us grow older, we learn to live with our joys and sorrows. The memorable activities which will be remembered by all who are leaving Covington High School, there will be many. The sorrows, we hope, will be few. A yearbook never forgets, and we hope as you glance through this book, you recognize the wonderful memories and friends; to seek reflections of years gone by. Mary Ann Cook Editor-in-Chief 4 Water dripping thru the ceilings, chalk dust atmosphere, stuffed lockers that won't close, hallways crammed with students . . . provide the framework of our intellectual growth. 5 6 7 8 Students learning, playing, preparing socially — each leaves his own impressions on the school. . . 10 11 Classrooms are not just for book learning; they are friends, work, study, and relaxation. It is here people realize life . . . 12 14 The six hour school day is not the only time for learning and growth ... it dominates activities beyond the classroom. It is a week of energy, tension and anxiety, climaxing on Friday night. It is the unity of coaches, the team and the crowd. 16 . . . the lonely, painfulness of defeat and the elation of victory. 19 20 21 22 23 Winter brings . . . the tenseness and hopes of a crowd in closely packed stands . . . the thrill and excitement of basketball . . . 27 28 ... the determination and drive that results in satisfaction and overwhelming pride . . . knowing you were the best. . . 30 31 That’s My Cousin CHARACTERS Custer Henshaw................LARRY GEARHARDT Millie Fisher - -- -- - — - -- -- KAREN KREITZ ER Kitty Drake..............SUEANN LONGENECKER Clem Wagner - -- -- -- -- -- -- GARRY MANSON Carleton Up DeGraff-------------- MARK BEAVER Adele Warren - - SUSIE FORSYTHE Laure Hunter------------------ CHRIS APSWICH Jane Arnold - - TERRI SHEARER Mary Cooper..................................VICKIE COHEE Helen Kruger - -- -- -- -- -- - -MARSHA WEIKERT Harriet Baker-------------------BARB WILLIAMS Bramwell Up DeGraff.............STEVE TAYLOR Kent Tyler.............................TERRY FIELDS Burt Holbrook...................DENNY ROBINSON Bob Granger.....................RANDY BRINKMAN Tullina La Gallimore.............TERESA BOGGS Big Wind.......................
