MAY 23, 1971 The one-hundred-second annual Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises were again combined this year at Covington High School. Eighty-four seniors, the largest to ever graduate from CHS, marched in to Pomp and Circumstance played by Miss Helen Holfinger. Miss Barbara Williams was the pianist. The Rev. Frank Gready gave the invocation while the audience stood. Joy Mengers then gave her salutatory speech entitled Our Welcome. This was followed by the Girls' Ensemble singing He. The Baccalaureate Address was given by the Rev. Gerhardt Mengers followed by the Mixed Ensemble that sang T Believe. Linda Crist, the valedictorian, then gave her address entitled Peace - The Right Direction. Let There Be Peace on Earth, the class song, was sung by the class. Mr. Blair Irvin, principal, presented the class of 1971. Diplomas were then presented by Lowell Yingst. The class sang their last song together, the Alma Mater and Benediction was given by the Rev. Frank Gready. As the class marched from the stage for the last time, each one received their class flower, the white daisy. 1. Our strong band can ne'er be broken Form’d at Covington High. IN HONOR, I expected a lot from my travel to the United States. But what I found during the five months I spent in Covington is much more than I expected. I spent one of the happiest periods of my life here. For this, thank you.”
