way I stopped rn at Burks Drug Store to get a coke About thrs trme Mrs Robert H1ll the former MIRIAM McCOOL came rn wrth her three darlrng lrttle grrls and asked me to Jorn them so I drd She told me that her husband ran a mrlk route for the Mlaml County Dany and he was havrng trouble wrth BRUCE SNIDER and the Sanders route It seemed that they keep takrng one anothers customers I sat there awhrle and gossrped Then I remembered the grocerres that I was sup posed to get So I sa1d goodbye to Mrrram and went on down to the Kroger store and lo and behold just guess who was the manager? Wel rt was JOE SHAFER He sard he had been manager for about f1V8 years He then showed me hrs new rnventron that he had rnvented to save work and money It was a machrne that had the names and the brand of the artrcle you wrshed to purchase prrnted on a card above two slots at the other end of the rnachrne wrth your brll attached and Joe was hrs own cashrer I then selected my artrcles and went back to the hotel After eatrng my drnner I retrred to my room because I was trred after my trrp In the rnrddle of the nrght I heard a crash below my wrndow so I hurrredly dressed and went to see what rt was A taxr had not qu1te made the corner and ran strarght 1nto a brrck wall across the street After rnqurrlng around I found out 11 was one of the Folkerth Cabs and the owner and manager PAT FOLKERTH was on her way takrng MARGARET INGLE and her secretary ANITA MONNIN home Margaret and An1ta had rust a rrved rn Covmgton on therr vacatron from New York where they had a Job wrth the Snavzalrod Snazzalrod Sneeze and Sons Theatrrcal Company They were both rn my class rn school Whr e I was standrng there an ambulance came and took them to the hosprtal The next day I had to report rn court for the trcket I recerved for speedmg the day before There were qu1te a few people ahead of me so I took my place at the end of the lrne The court was then called to order and the frrst case that came up was LEE BOYER vs MAX WARNER Lee was surng Max for catchrng all the frsh out of hrs favorrte frshrng spot So Judge Garman gave them both a frshrng pole and told them that the one who caught the most frsh 1n Rocky Branch creek wou d wrn the case The next case that came up was the case of the Pleasant H111 and Covmgton both professronal photographers workmg on the Wo f Cry Covrngton s one and only newspaper They had gone after a human rnterest story of a Hobo s Lrfe So they hopped a frerght and were caught by the rarlroad offrcrals Because rt IS agarnst the law to hook a free r1de on the rarlroad Judge Garman Sald the case was rn favor of the rarlroad But NED WOLFE the ed1tor and prlnter of the paper frnally convrnced the Judge that the grrls drdn t know they were breakrng the law He also pomted out that the grrls had endangered therr lrfe for the people of Covmgton and the surroundrng v1c1n1ty rn order to see how a true hobo travels The next ca e that came up was the case of my former classmate TOM MILLER He was charged for over s1tt1ng on Covrngton s only park bench It seems he had sat there for three days readrng and kept the bench occupred when other people wanted a place to s1t and enjoy the scenery He was f1ned f1ve do lars and d1sm1ssed Then the Judge turned to me He read the report that sa1d that I was go1ng erghty mrles an hour He f1ned me ten dollars and suspended my l1cense for a week I pard my frne and started toward the hosprtal where my fr1ends Margaret Anrta and Pat vrere confrned When I arrrved BETTY STEVENSON a former classmate that was workmg on the swrtchboard recognrzed me and told me that another one of my classmates RITA BROWN was the supervrsor of nurses and I should go and see her So I went to her offrce and she was very glad to see me We started talk1ng and she told me that qu1te a few of our classmates were workmg 1n the hosprtal KEITH LANGSTON and BILL TREMBLY were surgeons there and RUTH BUCK INGHAM was the dretrcran Then I asked her rf I could see the three grr s that were rnjured but they were all asleep So I started for the hotel The next day was Sunday and I had promrsed Myrna I would go to church wrth her before leavrng Because a classmate of mme was to be the noted speakrng mmrster Dr JOHN FLETCHER He had a wonderful sermon and upon leavrng I I saw Mr and Mrs CHARLES PHILLIS and famrly Whrle talkrng to Mrs Phrllrs the former Ann Thomas I learned they were plannrng to move to Calrfornra where Char'1e had a Job workrng on a newspaper i141 Railroad vs JANICE MEYER and JEANNE VIA.
