The staff took great pride in showing off the new school to the community of Covert. The dream of many finally came true . s JW The school administration and Board of Education spent long and hard hours ironing out problems to make a smooth running school year possi- ble. All faculty members tried to be as helpful as they could to stu- dents to encourage them in their goals of the future . Teachers had to keep in touch with all current events so that they might better prepare Covert youngsters for the outside world and society. The Yearbook staff really worked hard this year. All staff members put in long hard hours to make this book a treasure of memories that the staff and student body of C.H.S. will not forget. The football players had a little trouble trying to keep a team together this year but as more know how goes into the sport, Coven might have a team to be proud of in the future . They tried really hard and won a few games. 73 Under the guidance of a terrific coach , Coach Jim Babcock, this year ' s wrestling team grew and made a name for itself with area schools as tough competi- tors. Wrestlers Hold Covert Invitational — - 1 WRESTLING TEAM - John Collins, Kevin Erwin, Maurice Mister, Alverton Lewis, Melvin Young, Marlowe Howard, Kenneth Erwin, Austin Harding, Raymond Freeman, Arnold Baber, Michael Jones, Coach James Babcock . The Mat Men practiced long and very strenuous hours to be in top physical con- dition for their meets. More fans grew to appreciate the fine sport of wrestling this year than ever before . With new facilities, Covert held its first Coven Wrestling Invitational with eight schools participat- ing. Robert Maggard , Gregory Harris , Michael DeYoung , The Covert fans went wild as the Covert Bulldogs won the Class D District Title against rivals of Bridgeman, 68-64. It was a night that not many Bulldog followers are likely to forget . Team Members Named All Conference §aS ,,,,, Named to the Class D Conference team were James DeBoe, Steven Hawkins, Jerry Starks and Robert Maggard. To make a winning Regional Basketball Team all that is needed is ability, patience, discipline, forti- tude, determination and will power, we proved we had it. Cheerleaders Bring Spirit From Left to Right: Clare Prince, Renee Bennett, Trieste Smith, Patrice Strong, and Maureen Strong . The Varsity Cheerleaders really showed improvement this year. I i i+ % The J.V. Basketball team showed that they are certainly a tough team. They constantly ran hard and made their opponents fear their power and speed . The J.V. cheerleaders were just great. They really cheered their best and kept the crowd going. It showed in the players too. They really appreciated having such great cheerleaders. FRONT: Samantha Webb. The 7th and 8th grade basket- ball teams were pretty good this season but the 7th grade came out with more wins than the 8th . Jr. High Cheerleaders Lead With Pep They may have had a lot of cheerleaders but they proved to their team that they could do the job. % m -f The Jr. High had a lot of cheer- leaders this season. She did very well this year even though she didn ' t make it to state. Renee Bennett running the mile did fairly well this season. Tammy Hill was one of the few who long jumped . Track members came through for fans at Covert this year as they came in 1st in the Covert Invita- tional held at Covert for the first time this year and sec- ond in the Regional Track Meet. CHS Host Invitational — Regionals Tracks Wins C.H.S. Invitational The C.H.S. track team really got down. They won second place in the Regionals. More than half the team went to state . They also won Coven ' s Invita- tional this year. They won many other track meets too. The girls Softball team was much better than last year ' s. They had a record of 4-6 which wasn ' t bad. The Softball team qualified for tournaments and really played their best. They beat Bridgeman, then having to play Galien and losing. Girls Come On Strong In Softball The girls really played against some competition this season. They won a few games and lost a few.
