 It was a year for rebuilding, and a year for meshing together as a team, and especially a year for revenge! The Leopards started this year on a high point, beating the Honkers very handily. They remained un- beaten for two more weeks. Then a relaxed and over confident Cove team showed up to face North Powder. The overconfidence proved to be disas- trous as a fired up Badger team upset the favored Leopards. After this loss, the Leopards vowed not to lose another game so they could get revenge on the Badgers. This held true as the Leopards crushed opponents throughout the rest of the reg- ular season. The Leopards beat Long Creek easily. Then they traveled to Con- don and defeated a tough Blue Devil team. Then came Badger time as the over powering Leopards beat the Badgers 34-0 in a Mud Bowl. But now it was time to face the Peter Popoff squad from St. Paul. It was an amusing game, as the Leopards once again brought back the Blue! Richard Thew-Assistant Coach) The sun was high but offered no warmth in the arctic temperatures at the 1985 State B Championship game at Community Stadium where the Cove Leopards faced the St. Paul Buckaroos. It was the 2nd consecutive time these two teams had faced each other for the state crown. The 1984 game had been a disapointment for the Leopards when they lost 28-50 to the bucks, but this year they were determined to bring back the blue. As it turned out, the Leopards totally annihilated the defending champions 74-8 in a game they will never forget. Everyone of the Leopards had a great game, but above all, was Jo Thompson with 357 yards for 7 touchdowns; also in the spot- light was Jon Calhoun with a touchdown run and a touchdown pass to Larry James. Taz Roberts also ran for a touchdown. The line did a tremendous job led by Jeff VanSickel, Brian Driggers, Shawn Parker, Darren Mur- chison, and Larry James. The defence was overwhelming as they held the undefeated Buckaroos to one touchdown. 16
