Class hlston After completing elementary grades, be ing rather proud of what we had accomplished, we were looking for more success as we entered our FRESHMAN year of school in 1959 to become the graduates of 1963. We were eager to settle down and prepare ours e lve s to step out into the world of today. Mr. Grover Brown was our homeroom teacher. There were thirty-four on roll, 19 girls and 15 boys. The clas s officers for that year were: Gary Renegar, Pr e sid e nt, jack Lunsford, Vice-President, Shirley Groce, Secretary, Mickey Baity, Treasurer, and Linda Mize, Reporter. During that year we were pleased to have Gary Renegar as Mr. Courtney High and Christine Shelton as a cheerleader. As we progressed to our SOPHOMORE yearin high school, we felt wiser and surer of ourselves. Our homeroom teacher was Mr. Thomas Hanes. Our class officers were: Shirley Groce, President, Gary Renegar, Vice-President, Anna I-Ioots, Secretary, and Linda Mize, Treasurer. During that year, we were proud to have Mary Grace Shore as the winner of the World Peace Speaking Contest. Bus drivers from our class were Donald I-Iutchens and Walter Goins. In the spring, our class toured R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and later enjoyed ourselves at Tanglewood Park, and Reynolds Park, of which, I'm sure all of us have very pleasant memories. As Juniors we felt proud of the responsibility placed upon our shoulders. Mrs. Sue Miller was our homeroom teacher. Our class officers were: Ola Mae Groce, President, Jackie Steelman, Vice-President, Mary Grace Shore, Secretary, and Bobby Maynard, Treasurer. We were happy to have Joe Bullard enter into our midst. One of the most talked about events was the Junior play, The Girl Next Door.. Pla ns were made for the Jtmior- Senior Banquet and with much hard work, effort, and co-operation, we were able to have a wonderful time at the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Winston- Salem. Chosen for the Junior marshals were Gary Renegar-Chief, Mickey Baity, Jack Ltmsford, Bobby Maynard, and Linda Mize, The Beta Club members were: Mickey Baity, Gorrell Cranfill, Shirley Groce, Jack Lunsford, Bobby Maynard, linda Mize, and Gary Renegar- Bus drivers that year were: Brenda Allen, Marg aret Miller, Mary Grace Shore, Donald Hutchens, Walter Goins, and Joe Bullard. V We have reached our goal-to become Seniors. With all the Senior privileges, hardships, and events we've counted our twelve years of co-operation and happiness a blessed event. Our h om e room teacher for our Senior year was Miss Catherine Anthony. In the be ginning, time was fi lle d with the election of officers: Mickey Baity, President, Gary Renegar, Vice-President, Bobby Maynard, Treasurer, and Anna Hoots, Secretary. One of the most talked about things of the year was our class rings, but the most enjoyed events of our high school days, were the lovely banquet the Juniors gave us and our long awaited trip to Washington, D. C. and New York. That is one week that none of us willever forget. The Monogram Club was formed this year and its members were: Mickey Baity, Gary Renegar, Donald Hutchens, Gorrell Cranfill, Walter Goins, Jack Ltmsford, Jackie Steelman, and Robert Allgood. Bus drivers this year were: Margaret Miller, Brenda Allen, W. G. Williard, Mary Grace Shore, Donald Hutchens, and Jackie Steelman. Those participating in sports throughout our high school days were: Basketball, Gail Joyner, Margaret Miller, Gorrell Cranfill, Mickey Baity, Gary Renegar, Robert Allgood, Jack Llmsford, Jackie Ste elman, and Gerald Sloop, Football, Walter Goins, Jackie Steelman, Donald Hutchens, Gorrell Cranfi1l,jack Lunsford, Mickey Baity, and Gary Renegar, Baseball, jackie Steelman, Gorrell Cranfill, Mickey Baity, Gary Renegar, and Robert Allgood. We are grateful for the privilege of attending this school and obtaining a high school education. We are thankful for the guidance and encouragement of our Principal, Mr. Matthews, through our high school years. Our parents and teachers also played a leading part in the success of our education. As we receive our diploma, and each goes his own way into the life that lies before us, may we ever remember our high school days, but look forward, too, for the brighter days of tomorrow.
