There were two girls out for basketball, they were Barbara Steelman and Phyllis Smith. Blenda Cooke and Sarah McEwen were out for cheerleading. Football play- ers were Jim m i e Hutchens, Wendell Hutchens, Charles Shore, and Gary Caudle. Our class had two homeroom teachers this year. The girls had Miss Catherine Anthony, and the boys had Mr. Thomas Hanes. The class officers for 1956-57 were: S. D. Parker, President, Ble nda Cooke, President, Jimmie Hutchens, Vice-President, Lee Comer, Treasurer, Randall Renegar, Secretary, Betty Mye rs, Secretary and Treasurer, Larry Dixon, Reporter, and Barbara Steelman, Reporter. There were three p art i c i p ant s in the World Peace Spe ak in g C onte st, they were Lynn Craver, Barbara Steelman, and Phyllis Smith. We were very sorry to lose eleven me mbe rs of our class this year. They were: Margaret Baity, Doris Brown, Gary Caudle, Catherine Pettit, Lillie Belle Plowman, Lee Comer, Jerry Reynolds, Janet Shore, Je anette Gough, Gerald Hoots, and Betty Sizemore. Our Freshman Class trip was to Re ynolds Park. We had a swell time. Our Freshman year ended with a big bang! ! ! Our Sophomore year started with a bang! ! ! Our homeroom teacher was Mr. Thomas L. Hanes. We had such a good time at Reynolds P ark the year before that we tried the same again, We had just as much fun. We were sorry to lose two more of our students: Betty Myers and Charles Shore. The class officers were: Jimmie Hutchens, President, Randall Renegar, Vice -President, Barbara Steelman, Sec- retary, and Phyllis Smith, Treasurer. Phyllis Smith, Alice Lashmit, and Wendell Hutchens were out for basketball. Jimmie Hutchens was out for football. Lynn Craver and Phyllis Smith spoke again in the World Peace Contest. Phyllis Smith won the speaking conte st this year and received a free trip to New York and Washington. Mr. Kenneth Matthews accompanied her on this trip. Our Junior year was highlighted by the Junior-Senior Banquet, Evening in Paris , and the Junior Play, Aunt A bb y Answers an Ad. lMr. and Mrs. Thorn as Wooten directed our play. Our homeroom teacher was Mr. Grover Brown. Lynn Craver spoke in the World Peace Contest. Marshals were as follows: Jimmie Hutchens, Chief, Barbara Steelman, Louise M c Kn i g ht, Wayne Dobbins, Lynn Craver. We had e i g ht m e mb ers of the Beta Club: Jimmie Hutchens, Louise McKnight, Barbara Steelman, Wayne Dobbins, Lynn Craver, Phyllis Smith, Wendell Hutchens, and Blenda Cooke. Bus drivers from our class were Blenda Cooke, Phyllis Smith, Lynn Craver, Jimmie Hutchens, Henry Dinkins and Carolyn Snow. Those out for basketball were: Alice Lashmit, Wayne Miller, and Wendell Hutchens. Our Senior year was the most important year of high school. We have 19 students, Q11 boys and 8 girlsj. Our class o f f i c e r s were: Wayne Dobbins, President, Jimmie Hutchens, ViceePresident, Carolyn Snow, Sec- retary, W ayne Miller, Treasurer, and Louise McKnight, Reporter. The h ig hlights of the Senior Class were selecting superlatives, electing annual st aff, planning and taking trip to New York and Washington, planning all the grad- uation n e c e s s it i e s-- invitations, caps and gowns, rings, and diplomas, and enjoying the Junior-Senior Banquet. The honor students were: Jimmie Hutchens, Barbara Steelman, and Louise McKnight. We were very proud to have Barbara Steelrnan as Miss Courtney High in our Senior year. Those who went out for basketball were: Wayne Miller, S. D. Parker, Randall Renegar, and Wendall Hutchens. Those out for football were: Wayne Dobbins, S.D. Parker, Randall Renegar, Jimmie Hutchens, and Wendell Hutchens. Phyllis Smith was a cheerleader this year. 1 Two more big events were: Q11 the Senior class sponsor- ed a surprise birthday party for Randall Renegar and Jimmie Hutchens, Q21 a hamburg e r fry at Tanglewood Park. We were very proud to have Mrs. Cynthia Cain as our homeroom teacher. The teachers through the years have said, We wouldn't make it through the 12 years, but we did with lots of fun anda great deal of hard work. PHYLLIS SMITH Class Historian
