Class Prophecy It was the mght of my graduatmon from Courtenay Hlgh School I was seated on a tombstone m an old deserted churchyard gazmg at the stars through my new telescope I reallzed that the next day would probably be the last tlme I would see some of my classmates so I drowsxly wondered what would become of thexn through the long years ahead Whmle these thoughts were runmng through my m1nd I notlced my telescope had changed 1nto transparent cheese A mouse w1th a long rope around 1ts neck came burrowmg through the cheese 1 grabbed the rope and It appeared that the mouse was larger than I had rmagmed at f1rst We started to fly through space and after flymg some drstance I not1ced some strange l1ttle men wlth wmgs Bemg surprxsed I let go of the rope and fell down down down All of a sudden I landed kerplunk I was m a very strange place and saw that I had landed on a carpet I plcked up a newspaper lymg there but couldn t f1nd anythmg about 1951 From the wr1t1ng on the newspaper and the odd buxldmgs around me l must be ln Pers1a and thxs must be a Persxan Carpet I thought th1s mxght also be a magxc carpet so I saxd to the carpet Show me what my classmates from Courtenay I-hgh School are do1ng now The rug rose and floated away wxth me s1tt1ng on top Our fxrst stop was at Sydney Austraha and much to my surpr1se I met Ann Wagner After a cord1a1 hello I learned that she was Australxa s outstandrng Jugler After this dehghtful surpr1se we flew over Berhn Germany 1n the Engllsh speak1ng sectlon of Germany a large sxgn attracted my attentlon It read KENNETH MOREHOUSE S CHEWING GUM MANUFACTURING COMPANY DELICIOUSLY FLAVORED CHEWING GUM NON SHRINKABLE AND NON SKID GUARANTEED MILEAGE OF Z000 LAPS All of a sudden I found myself xn Butte Montana and who should I see but Betty Hopwood a typxcal housewlfe Her husband s shxrt was hangmg on the lme and from the style of It I deczded that they must own a cattle ranch Soon the maglc carpet moved off the roof and whlsked me away to Pensacola Flor1da There I saw Mary Drong, who was employed 1n a Llfe Saver factory as a hole puncher Next I was In Washmgton D C where a very rmportant meeting was takmg place among the Presrdent and the Senators Much to my surpr1se I notmced Atha Lee Hurnes was Pres1dent of the Umted States She was elected as the f1rst woman presxdent of our country ma1nly because she was the only candldate I woke w1th a start and realrzed It was late I yawned pzcked up my telescope and started homeward 1 was sorry that I would never know what was to become of my classmates but very glad that my strange exper1ence was only a dream 9 u I V ' Y E I I o f ' I I ' I , , .s-.-... .--ff.-.--Q . . . , . . . . , . p S ' I I tl ' ' 1' I 9 I I . . , . . , . , - X I I I is 1 II I . . , . . . 5 Q , - 0 D I , - . . , - , 0 ' I Q , .
