GEORGE WALKER ELAINE 1-'ALK HAROLD MICKELSON 16 DONALD WRAA LSTAD IONE NEVA Freshman Class History The Freshrnan class started out this year with eleven members which were Abner Mitchell lone Neva Patsy Nalker George Walker Donald Wraalstad Leonard Palmer Harold Mickelson Elaine Falk Tommy Hoggarth Carol Wright and Betty Lovell ln October we were initiated by the Seniors It lasted for two days At the end a delicious lunch We have chosen class officers They are President Donald Wraalstad Vice President Betty Lovell Secretary and Treasurer Tommy Hoggarth Our Student Council member is Abner Mitchell and our Queen candidate was Elaine Falk We are now working and looklng forward to our Sophomore year which will hold many new events for us 17 of our final punishment came. Everyone survived very well. ' C I William Nutt C J ' C 3 Boys Basketball On November lst ten boys answered the call for basketball pratlce Those re portmg were Dale Baurngarner Roger Bmschoff Erb1e Hopwood Eugene Wraalstad Leonard Palmer Damel Stachlowslu The boys enjoyed an average season havlng won 7 and lost 10 The boys won Upon entermg the County Tournament the boys lost then opemng game to Med1na but came back to w1n the consolat1on t1t1e by dowmng Cleveland and Woodworth In the Dxstrxct Tournament the boys won then' opemng game from McHenry but were beaten by Kensal and Clenfleld The fact that Courtenay w111 not lose a smgle player tlns year by graduatlon mdxcates that Courtenay boys wxll be a team to watch next year ZZ I victories over Sutton 121, Leal, Dazey, McHenry, Rogers, and Cleveland. EvonNeva Mzxed Chorus At the Beg1nn1ng of th1s term we weren t sure we were gomg to have chorus but fortunate for us Mrs Palmer gave her consent to dxrect us Our chorus cons1sts of th1rty one gn-ls and s1x boys Amarylhs and S1ng1ngA1ong Our contrlbutlon to the Chrlstmas program was the Contata Prlnce of Peace There were three solos and one duet We plan on gomg to the Sprxng Festlval to whxch we w11l take several nurnbers Z8 Our first appearance was for the carnival program for which we sang Imtlatlon Party The first school party of the year was gxven by the Semors on October Z0 1950 in the honor of the green Freshmen Instead of a week of xmtmation as it is the custom the Seniors gave them the full treatment 1n two days lt was a hllarlous two days, one stranger asked the local postmlstress. Why do the people dress so crazy around here 1 saw a g1rl walking down the street wearmg a baby cap on her head, a real short dress and high top 'boots fwhxch was Abner M1tchellj The fmal punish ment came on Thursday night which was followed by refreshment given by the Seniors This ended another dreaded but happy 1n1t1at1on Carnlval Courtenay held its annual school carnival on October 2.6 1950 The evening got under way w1th a short program The Girls Glee Club accompamed by Mrs John Palmer opened the program by singing two songs Singing Along and Amaryllis A short mlnstrel play was given by the lower grades The play re presented a small schoolroom of children with Sally Barker as thelr teacher Between recitations songs were sung by the group Mr Odell Amundson of Valley City North Dakota presented a number of feats of magxc to the audience thus bringing the program to a close After the prograrn tzckets were drawn for the door prize chalr and blanket Swanson the blanket, and Mr Sanson of Glascoe Kansas the chair At midmght the Coronation of the Queen was held The carnival Queen Evon Neva marched 1n with her attendants Ealme Falk Mary Drong Anita Mitchell .August Bartkowski president of the School Board presented Evon w1th the Queen s Crown and a small gift from the school During the entire evening b1ngO was played and novelt1es were sold A great many took interest in an auction sale which was called by Glen Wilson So once again another Courtenay Carnival was brought to an end We the pupils of Courtenay High School wish to extend our cordial thanks to all those who attended to make our carnival a success Semor Class Dance We Seniors wanting to go on a trip 1n the spring came to the conclusion that we needed some money to do this To earn this needed money we decided to sponsor a public dance in the town hall on December Z7 1950 This we did w1th great success taking m S 115 Now we will be able to go on our Senior trip which we have been looking forward to lumor Class Dance Being that it is a tradition for the .Tumors to give the Seniors a banquet, we dec1ded to sponsor a dance to finance the banquet Our dance was held on October 1950 We are now capable of sponsoring a banquet Z9 ' I ' n n Those who received the prizes wereg Mrs. Joe Falk--the door prize, Charles ' . .
