HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL The traditional Halloween Carnival, sponsored by the Patrons Club, was held on October 27. X ' isitors to this year ' s carnival enjoyed such things as the Haunted House, the Fun House, the Fortime Teller, and the Cake Walk, to name a few. Tlie evening was topped off with the crowning of the Halloween Queens. Tliey were Miss C iithia Brown for the elementary. Miss Broo.w e Sanders for the junior high, and Miss Ingrid Scliults for the high school. The Halloween Carnival was a great success and much enjo ed h all who attended. ini 1 K 1 ' ■ 54- 1 ' ' t I n B 9s ) i T 1 B[ 1 f - ' l m ■ ■ 1 Homecominq 73. 4 The premier event of Council Magnolia ' s new football field as the third annual Homecoming, held on October 12, 1973. School spirit reached an all time high as the Magnolia Raiders achieved a hard fought victory over East Holmes Academy. Climaxing the activities was the crowning of Miss Melanie Arinder as Homecoming Queen of 1973 by Mr. Robert E. Magee, assisted by Miss Janet Mitchell, 1972 Homecoming Queen. Escorting Miss Arinder was Wilkins Roan. Senior maids were Miss Sharon Duke, escorted by Ronny Pitts, and Miss Pegg - Kinard, escorted by Harold Ades. Junior maids were Miss Jeanine David, escorted by Dennis Coleman, and Miss Janet McCall, escorted by Billy Reeves. Sophomore maids were Miss Greta Allred, escorted by Billy Clark, and Miss Julie Wyman, escorted by Hugh McClellan. Freshman maid was Miss Ruthie Gangawere, escorted by Billy Williams. The flower girl, Lisa McDonald, was escorted by Rob Hyde, crown bearer. Acting as Mistress of Ceremonies was Miss Christy Hall. Concluding the night ' s activities was a dance held in the Raider gvm with entertainment provided by Bastille. An enjoyable time was had by all as the very .successfid 1973 Homecoming came to a close. n , f : I ' W L ' |h| V ' H ' W Hw V m ww H IP POWDERPUFF FOOTBALL GAME On November .30, 1973, the Senior and Junior girls met in the third annual Powderpuff gridiron clash. Both teams had the spirited backup of cheerleaders, coaches, and fans. .After a well-plaved and hard-fought game the Jiuiiors lost at the hands of the more experienced Senior team, 16-6. FACULTY vs. GIRLS TEAM In November, the Pro- Type Girls basketball team challenged the determined lady faculty to an unusual game of skill. With the honest help of the officials the ladies scored 13 points to the Girls 14. This team is composed of activities directors from churches throughout Jackson. At the halftime, each team member gave a short testimony. After a well-played and spirited game, the faculty was defeated 84-78. RAIDER REFLECTIONS The news and views of Council 6 are found each week in the Southwest Guide. Raider Reflections , title of the news column, is written by Susan Tadlock and Terry Dodson. RAIDER REVIEW Vickie Stevens writes the Raider Review, a sports review of the Council 6 Raiders. This column appears in the Clinton News each week. COUNCIL MAGNOLIA ' S JR. MISS Chosen to represent Coiuicil Magnolia in this year ' s Jackson Jr. Miss Pagent was Miss Behnda Wooley. She showed her exceptional manner with her fine display of talent and shining personality. FOREST HILL INVITATIONAL TWIRLING CONTEST Winning first place in Forest Hill ' s Invitational Twirling Contest for their duet twirling were Coiuicil Magnolia ' s Debbie Chandler and Cindy Ross. Debbie and Cindy also show their devotion for the Raiders by performing during half-time activities for our many supporters and fans. SLAVE AUCTION The Juniors, in an attempt to meet certain goals for the Jr.-Sr. Prom, held a Slave Auction on Jan. 2.5. Auctioneer Mr. Reed and surprise guest auctioneer Mr. Coleman led the captivated crowd in an hour of friendship and humor. The clothing modeled was made by the students to show the achievements of Mrs. Parrot ' s Homemaking Class. JUNIOR vs. SENIOR BOYS BASKETBALL On February 9, the Junior and Senior boys held a basketball game to help raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom and Senior Trip. Much to the dismay of the Seniors, the Juniors won the game with a score of 38 to 32. i % n THE DEPRESSIONS HIGHLIGHT 50 ' S DAY Excitement moimted as the entire student body gathered to hear the renowned singing group, The Depressions. The members of the group. Bob Horton, Wayne Miller, Ronnv Pitts, and Ricky Stubblefield delighted the audience with goldies such as Heartbreak Hotel and Book of Love. The program ended with the crowd yelling for more, and of course they returned to do that one last song. When their screaming female fans chased them all the way to the dressing room, it was evident that all those concerned would remember February 22, 1974 for a long time. Hi| STUDENT BODY ELECTIONS During the week of April 15-19 several members of the student body participated in campaign activities for various student body offices. The four posts were sought by five eager candidates. They distributed small momentoes for their fellow students to encourage support. Items such as suckers, giun, and paper flowers were given out as an added insentative. Then on April 19 the final poll was taken to name the victors. Our Student Body Officers for 1974-75 are: President— Susan Tadlock Vice-President— Debbie Vin.son Secretary— Kathy Purvis Treasurer— George Broadstreet. SALUTE TO SENIOR ATHLETES To a student their senior year is one of many dreams come true and goals met. To a senior athlete it is a year where they strive to achieve the fullest satisfaction from their sport. This is it, the final year, last stop to prove and be proven. Some may receive trophies, honors, and scholarships; these go to Seniors who have diligently developed their abiHties to the fullest. Honors are not all a senior athlete may have; they have their memories. Where glory fades memories do not. S 9 I CLASS DAY A dav for those who strove to achieve are recognized for their achievement. FOOTBALL Council Magnolia ' s 73-74 football team better known as Riggins Raiders , produced not only the most exubrating season in the three year history of the team, but produced the teams first winning season with an overall standing of five wins and five loses. The mighty Raiders were led by head coach Joe Riggin who proved not only commendable as a coach, but as a friend. Head Cheerleader Beginning their work in Mav of 1973 and continuing through May of 1974, these girls showed a true sense of lovaltv and devotion to the school. BOYS BASKETBALL The 73-74 Basketball season proved to be one ot unending satisfaction and fulfillment for the Coimcil Magnolia Raiders. The never cease to amaze Raiders worked wholeheartedly under the more than capable coaching of Jimmy Lofton. Some of the achievements of this vear ' s Raider team are: 2nd place in the Magnolia Tournament, 2nd place in District, .3rd place in the Baptist Tournament, 3rd place in the Manhatten Tournament, and 3rd place in the McCluer Tournament. GIRLS BASKETBALL The hard-fighting Raiderettes of our 73-74 team coached by Mrs. Helen Richbiirg upheld Magnolia sportsmanship throughout the entire season. Some of the achievements of this year ' s Raiderette team are: All-Star player in the Magnolia Tournament and favorite player in the Manhatten Tournament won by Susan Weaver, and All-Tournament in the Raptist Tournament and All-Tournament in the Manhatten Tournament won by Sandra Shaw.
