Perhaps as some of us look back on our High School days, it seems like a long while since we entered as Freshmen, and to others just a short time ago. But anyway we cannot help regret- ting to a certain extent that our school days for some of us are practically over, and We are classed as young men and women, largely upon our own resources. We have had a good record so far this year in most all of our activities altho they are not near to a close. We have yet to look forward to our senior play and our track events. In studying the histories of the various classes that have grad- uated in advance of our present class we find that none have had the large number of seniors that started in this class as Freshmen four years ago, as we have. Also we found that we have the largest number of students that started in the first grade together. In other words there are about ten or twelve students that have spent twelve years of school life together. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS-1928 Laurn Graham ,......... We also managed to live through our chapel appear- ances. Ralph Van Camp was elected president of our class in its initial year in C. G. H. S. Although we had entered into the spirit of things in our freshman year our second year saw us taking a larger part in the various school activities. Several of our members landed places on the football and basket ball squads, some joined the glee clubs, and others took places in the high school orchestra and band. Wesley Tally, who We elected president the fore part of the school year, steered us safely through our second eventful year in school. Page Twenty-four Snider, Taylor, Nott, Isaacs, Hermstein, Prather, Osborne, Osborne, Gallaspie, Colyer, Wilson, McGinity, Cline, Tally, Carter, Rumsey, Taylor, Anderson, Zeigler, Kibble, Broils. In this, our Junior year, we elected Leland Rose president of the class, and at our first class meeting we decided to have a Halloween party. This was pulled off in due time, and was a success. The following boys went out for football this year, the first three receiving letters: Jack Hall, Willis Snider, Jim Isaacs, Alvertis McGinity, Everett Torrance, and Harmon Walker. The Junior boys' basket ball team won the class tournament, and the girls lost only by one point. Junior boys who played on the regular school team included Gene Ellis, Walter Gillaspie, Alvertis McGinity, Everett Torrance, and Harmon Walker. Two Junior members of the high school band, Calvin ,Gurtler and Ralph Van Camp, plan to enter the State Music Contest at Emporia again this year, after doing fairly well last year. The Junior play and the Junior-Senior Banquet bid fair to be the outstand- ing events of our young lives this year, but we look forward to our Senior year with more enthusiasm than we did to even our Freshman year. Sophomore Class History In the early fall of 1926 a group of highly excited girls and boys entered the Council Cmrove High School as the Freshman Class of 1926 and '27. We began the year with the usual bustling about the halls and corridors blissful, heedless of the taunts of the Upper Classmen and Sophomores. After we had settled down to regular school Work we met under the super- vision of the sponsors, Miss Fredenburg and Mr. Turnbull, and organized as a class, electing Max Barber president and Louise Pulliam vice president. This year was a success, The members of the class took active part in the Various school activities. Lumbur, Lumburg, Barber, Reynolds, Revere, Davis, Falconer, Smartt, Holthouse, Hadley, Baker. In September, 1927, this class entered in its second period of High School as Sophomores. Miss Wight and Mr. Rucker were appointed sponsors and the class was again organized. Kermit Pearson was elected president and Roma Roberts vice president. This year also promises to be a success. Two enter- tainments have been held by the class during the two years. The first was a party given in the Freshman year and a picnic given in the Sophomore year. This class has been well represented in athletics: several of its members having taken an active part in both basket ball and football. As the year draws to a close and we look forward to the Junior and Senior years we think that if we stick to our motto which is: We strive to reach the heights not by sudden flights but by honest toil. We will make them successes also. Page Twenty nine Leahma: I'll never get over what I saw last night. Roma R: 'iWhat is that? It was soon discovered that the members of our Freshmen Class had a greater ability for music than for public speaking. Indeed! We do not profess to be experts in everything, Although we were well represented, both in football, and basket ball, it was not our luck to Win th class games. But, say! We're Working for something that makes real men and Women. That something that helps us to climb to success, Education. Hail to us Freshmen, The green of the fall, We stick to our problems, To class and to all. We Freshies are green, We're quick to admit, But we are strong and clean And full of keen wit, We're a after the schooling, That's why uJe're in school, And with a great effort, We re keeping the rule. He was a hard tackler, ball lugger and an excellent passer. ARTHUR BERRY CArtJ played his last year of football for C. G. H. S. at full back. When a gain was need- ed we always called on him. JACK HALL, Guard In his first year of football he demon- strated that he had plenty of power and drive. His tackles were sure and depend- able. GLEN SNIDER fSnidej, Tackle Glen hit in with a smile but he was always full of fight from head to foot. He took lots of punishment and dealt it out in the same way. WILLIS SNIDER, Guard When a backfield man wanted a hole in the line all he had to do was let Willis know about it. If there wasn't one there he made one. Watch Willis go next year. WARREN LYTTLE Warren made his letter this year by playing end. Although out of last year's games on account of injuries he made up for it this year. HAROLD BROWN Brownie played the center position with skill and ability. He will be a great loss to the team next year. Page Thirty-seven Page Thirty-eight ROBERT WILLIAMS, Quarterback A great part of the team's progress was due to Bob. Always outsmarting the other team and always making his plays Work. ELLIS KEYES, End Ellis was fast and furious in getting down on the ball. His fighting spirit always baffled hisopponents. CHESTER CLAUS, Sub. Fullbach Coming out in his first year of school proved that he had the speed and power needed to play football. Watch him when he is a Senior. JIM ISAACS, Guard Jim played his'first year of football for C. G. this year. His strength and fight baffled his opponents. We will see Jim again next year. JOHN E. HANEY, Half John was a fast shifty little player who fooled the opponents both ways, carrying the ball and tackleing them. GLEN CAYWOOD, End Cay was slow in getting out to prac- tice but Very capable when playing in a game. His speed and ability to get down on punts will be missed next year. 4. w'i,,.
