National Honor Society It is only when the torch of Knowledge serves to kindle the flame of each, that we can be securely lighted along the road that leads to progress. The flaming torch, a symbol of knowledge and the light of truth, describes a pin that will be worn with pride by the seniors who have maintained the highest averages during four years of high school. The Class of ,SS is proud to have thirty- one students as members of the National Honor Society. Members consist of the upper quarter of the class limited to fifteen per-cent. Since the year, 1923, when the National Honor Society was founded, it has been the tradition to choose its members by the four ideals: leadership, good char- acter, scholarship, and service. Each year a day is set aside to honor the members of this society. On this day the members are awarded pins, and a program follows with the participants being members of the society. We hope that this yearis representation in the National Honor Society will serve as an incentive to the future graduates of Coughlin High School, and that they strive to earn membership in this honorary organization.
