'J 1' 'A if ll. r 1- ' 'ff 'YV' Ml A The educational pattern of the Middle Ages, for instance, was created by a way of life called feudalism. A part of the design of this pattern was the system known as chivalry. Imagine a young fearless crusader, trained in the ways of courage, honor, and courtesy, about to set forth upon a guest to far-distant lands. He was not always a fearless warrior, for only seven or eight years earlier he had been a humble page in some great household. Only by years of effort and study and devotion had he proved himself worthy of knighthood. As he went forth, though he was untried, he faced life un- afraid because he had been well educated in the arts and skills necessary to meet his life experiences. He knew he would risk his life defending the ideals in which he believed. Yet, his courage was high, and his faith was strong, he set out, confident in his future. The chivalric ideal, though the pattern is changed, still inspires us, and, though our pattern of education differs from that of the medieval crusader, we feel that our school has educated us well so that we go out equipped with knowledge and strength and faith to meet the challenge of the modern chaotic world. five SIX DEDICATIIIN I am but one who humbly speaks for all Of us, that I might tribute pay to him Who is of worth so great that words are weak And faltering the pen that tries to tell His greatness in a few short lines of verse. This man has set a pattern, through the years, To guide us on our way. We found in him our teacher, counselor, And friend. All those who had desire to learn he taught And shared his wisdom so that in their minds There grew ambition and great zeal to know All there might be to know of books and life. To share his knowledge was his great delight. For thirty-eight devoted years he served. To teach us was his joy. Each one of us was always certain that He'd help us solve our problems, great or small. His way was kindliness and truth, and, when All other ways would fail-firm discipline, But based on justice, this we knew. Our Admiration for his sense of justice grew. To guide us was his right. His strength of character is manifest To all who know the life of service he Has led. As citizen he takes his place Among the great men who have served so well. His church he serves in many ways and is A source of strength to those he leads. His life Is witness of the Golden Rule by which men live To serve God and mankind. It will be difficult to see him go- Our cherished friend-we'll miss him constantly. The 'power of his personality Has touched us all, In these weak words we speak Our gratitude and hope that in the days Ahead helll Hnd contentment and great joy To Hll the years to come. eight .f .-. .,... .. - -- 2:-:nfl4-av.1:-f2z:f:.-fa-5:2-ir.-55:4xii.:-.1154 .vw-. , , . .. -:fp : -. ff- .1--u'-:.'.11 'n1.?-'-11'.1-?.u 1-HSS '- -su -15-.mf-.-'. We sing a fond adieu. Your long-loved memories we do revere, We, who are now about to part From this old school to us so dear, We'll miss you ever in each heart. And, to you we say farewell. Time, passing, breaks school ties that bind Us to our Alma Mater fair. The words we scarce can find To speak the thoughts we share As life's great challenge now before us lies. May each ambition be fulfilled, And future victories be ours In all the hopes and plans we build. To our Coughlin days farewell. The months and years have flown so fast- A few short hours-and then we part. But time cannot erase From every loving heart The pleasant mem'ries of our high school days. A song of gratitude we sing. Our voices, loud and strong, we raise. The Class of Nineteen F ifty-one, To all, we say farewell. by ELIZABETH VVIVELL twenty-one 195 Alberta Aukerlund Iohn Bilski Charles Comoh Wesley Haven Warren Blaker Walter Cron Ioseph Hodun Genevieve Cardell Allen Feld Ianet Huey Lorraine Cavan Ellen Fitzgerald Rosemary Iskra Marion George Theodore lwaniw ational onor Society Gwen Iones Sylvester Klutchko Barbara Kempinski Theodore Kowalski George Laczko hosen Members of the National Honor Society are are scholarship, leadership, character, and chosen from the upper quarter of the senior service to the school. The Crusader of old had to have vision. I-Ie needed preparation, such as the training in the use of his Weapons and practice in doing his duty in times of great stress. He had to have a readiness for sacrifice, a Willingness to leave the comforts of home and to endure exposure and hunger and thirst in order to carry out his vision. Courage Was needed to face all this, courage that came through the example of his ancestors and companions. And, the modern Crusader needs the same traits of character. I do not mean only such of you boys who, by entering the armed services, may have to do just what the old Crusader did. These qualities are needed by all the members of the class, both men and Women. To be successful in life you should have vision, a vision based on past experiences that have been Well- considered and accurately evaluated. You Will need preparation not only the preparedness that comes from studies Well-learned but also that training which you scarcely knew you were getting, which came from your school associations, your family, your friends, and your church. The preparation is the Weapon of offense and defense which you, as American Crusaders, will use in life. You will need courage with which to meet the difficulties which you are bound to face in life. The class of l95l seems to me just a little different from the other classes that have graduated from this school as I feel that I am graduating with you since I leave the same day you go out. Ever since you entered this school four years ago, I have felt as though I,too, have been a member of your class. I have tried to keep before the school the necessity of getting the traits of character that I have mentioned above and have tried to make it possible for them to do so. I hope I have succeeded. I Wish for all of the class of l95l, and the rest of the school, such success as Will bring you prosperity and the only permanent happiness-the joy that comes from a life Well-lived in favor With God and man. CHORUS Winning in the field and forum, Keep the goal in view, Shout in chorus for our banner, Wave the Red and Blue. Pleasant memories cluster 'round it, Of its prestige proud, While the promise of the future, Beams through every cloud. When life's noontime joy has vanished, Lost in reverie, Like the glory of the sunset School-day dreams we see. one hundred three l i 1 1 Index Page A Cappella Choir .,...... ,......... 7 8 Alma Mater ,,...,.,..,. ........,...,.. 1 03 Amateur Show ,.....,.. .......... 8 7 Art Club ......................,.... ,......... 7 7 Athletic Banquet .,.,4.... ....,..... 8 3 Band ,.......................................,.....,.....,............. ,. ......,... 79 Bank Cashiers' Association ,...,....... ...... , .. 80 Baseball Scores .....,....,...................,.. ,........, 9 6 Baseball Team .,............. ....,.,.. 9 7 Basketball Scores ......,.... ..,....... 9 2 Basketball Team ......,....,.. ...,.,......... 9 3 Board of Education ..,...,...... ............. 1 O, ll Board of Publications ,...,.,....., ,..,,...,..., 6 4, 65 Boys' Bowling Club ,.,........ .,........ 7 2 Cafeteria Views .,.......... ,........, 1 9 Cheerleaders .,..,..,, ..,.....,, 1 02 Club Candids .,....,.,,...................,.... ...,..,... 6 6 Commencement Chorus .,.,.,,..... .......,.. 8 2 Custodians ..........,.,...............,.,........... ...,...... 1 5 Dedication .,..,.,.,....,.. ..... 6 Division Page- Administration ....... ........ 8 , 9 Activities ..,............. ...,....,... 6 2, 63 Classes ...... ..,......,... 1 6, 17 Hi-Y ...,.,.......,..............,.........,., Index to Advertisers Iournal Reporters ...,......
