An 0pen Letter to the Senior Class Dear Seniors: An athletic coach often tells his team that they will play the game in the same manner that they practice. Listless practice sessions bring sluggish and uninterested playing in the game at the end of the week, While snappy drills tend to bring the alert playing that means victory in the game. That is true also in the relation between school days and later life. It would be a mistake for any one to call the period in school a mere prepara- tion for life as though that program which we erroneously call Commence- ment was the end of a preparatory period and the beginning of life itself. For life in school--the topic of this yearbook-is just as much a part of life itself as the life after graduation. Many of your class have had to face crises in their lives that demanded decisions as vital and difficult as any they Will face later. But still there is a similarity in the relation between practice and the game and school days and the later life. For the period of life through which you have just been passing is the period that shapes your adult life very strongly as you slip from the age when you have been following prescribed rules with each stop marked for your guidance into a time when all such guidance has been removed and you are on your own. The habits and self-discipline that you have formed for yourselves will have much more effect on your lives than many of you think. Since these things are so, the faculty of your school have tried to make these four years happy for you, but at the same time have kept in mind the necessity of having you acquire such training as will enable you to be Worthy citizens of this great democracy, a credit to your families, your school and yourselves. We Wish you all good fortune, Class of l949. Sincerely, Mifm
