Six In reply refer to Initials and No. Op-10-MD NAVY DEPARTMENT OFFICE or THE CHIEF or NAVAL OPERATTONS WASHINGTON March 16 , l9L+2 Dear Mr. Graham: Of course I am more than willing and feel highly honored that you should even think of dedicating your Year Book to me.. Nothing goes home quite so much as things from home, and I am really deeply touched that you should desire to do this. Thoughts come thick and fast when I think of the Hilkes- Barre High School and I can jump back over the years as though it were yesterday - to the foundation I obtained Hin my teensu, not only from books but more particularly in character building from the associations with the teaching staff and with classmates, I wish every student could realize while he is at school, from the lower grades all the way up, that it is what he does today which fits him and her for tomorrow. So often we are prone to think overmuch of the future and what we want to do and what we want to be, to the obscurement of the realization that life begins each morn- ing and it is the way we concentrate on the tasks of today, no matter how inconspicuous, that determines what we will do and what we will be tomorrow. I believe it was old Rip used to say - Hwell, I won't count when we have our lapses, are prone this oneH, but our inner makeup is is recording it and registering it character and our future. Van Winkle who, in his drinking, this one.H In a measure we all, to say - Hwell, we won't count counting it and our entire fabric and chalking it up against our If I could leave a thought in the year book which I could hope would be a lasting one, it would be that it is today that counts and it was well expressed by William Dewitt Hyde who stated: WTO worry about tomorrow is to fail of devotion to the tasks of today and so to spoil both days.H
