Sixteen MR. SUPER IN HIS OFFICE May 15. 1941. To the Members of the Class of 1941: As you sever your connections with this school, I cannot but wonder what you are thinking and what you have learned. not so much from text- books and teachers but from your varied experiences of life. Have you learned to grasp each opportunity that has been given you during this time of preparation which is now closing for you or have you become accustomed to waiting for opportunities to come to you with the mistaken idea that a chance once neglected may be offered to you again? You have seen your- selves change from freshmen to graduates with each step between clearly marked. F rom now on these divisions will be less and less evident until some time you will suddenly find yourselves bound fast by circumstances about you and unable to take the steps that lead to new fields of life. History will look back on these stirring times in which you live as a period of great change when a new kind of civilization was formed. 1 believe that it will be a better type. And each one of you can help that course of civilization become better by making yourselves better bread winners, better citizens of our land, and men and women with higher ideals of life and religion. America is one of the few places where boys and girls of your age are still in school. If everyone of these boys and girls who are graduating from high schools this Iune will strive for success in these three things, bread- Winning, patriotic citizenship, and higher ideals, not only will you be more prosperous and happy, but your country and the world will be better, and civilization will be changed to a higher and loftier plane. I hope each one of you will attain such success as will bring you prosperity and the only permanent happiness, the joy that comes from a life well lived in favor with God and man.
