With the close of football season on Thanksgiving Day, Coughlin,s 1936 football team hnished a season of many ups and downs. On the whole the team did not have a very success- ful year. They did, however, provide some startling upsets. Coughlin opened an erratic season with a scoreless tie with Swoyerville. After that Wyo- ming and Lebanon bowed before their superior playing. Plymouth was next to fall followed by Pittston. Meyers was the first team to stop the Red and Blue onslaught. The following week, Coughlin provided one of the season's startling upsets with a win over the strong G. A. R. team. In the next game, Nanticoke smothered them under a blanket of passes and Kingston hnished things with a narrow win on Thanksgiving Day. In the Thanksgiving struggle Coughlin was never beyond the thirty yard line, and ob- tained only two first downs as compared to the eleven made by Kingstong however, the team staved off six Kingston attacks which seemed certain touchdown plays. All that was needed was one successful play. This came for Kingston in the last quarter when Fay ran 26 yards on a reverse to the l-yard line. Kup- Stas then attempted a plunge, but, when he was about to cross the goal line, he fumbled. The play was ruled as a touchdown, the referee claiming that Kup- stas fumbled after he crossed the line. 1936 SCORES Sept. I9 Coughlin 0 Swoyerville 0 Sept. The appearance of a turkey on the pages of the Breidlin is a very unusual occurrence and demands an explanation. The turkey, having had nothing to say in the matter, posed with alacrity. It was one of those served in the cafeteria's Thanksgiving dinner. Together with potatoes and cranberry sauce, the turkeys made a de- licious ten-cent dinner, which served as a happy prologue to other Thanksgiving Day celebrations. This and the pep- ' piestv pep meeting of the year aroused . holiday emotions in every one. Tu'enty-lu'o
