Dur- ing the winter, they conduct sleigh-riding parties and, when warmer days come, roller slcating. Always they aim to promote good fellowship among all the girls of the school. They also strive, at all times, to uphold their reputation for good sportsmanship. In their meetings, programs emphasizing different girls' sports are presented. Miss Geraldine Daley is the adviser. The officers are: president, Kathryn Frank, vice-president, Ruth Jones, secretary, Leona Zeslceg treasurer, Elaine Sanders, Journal reporter, Leona Kadluboslci. The first evening show of the year, the Coughlin Varieties, was presented on Thursday, November 5. The show included a short operetta, The Grasshopper, a one-act fantasy, He Who Hops, a roller-skating troupe and a humorous entr'acte. In addition, the hand gave a short concert. The admission fee, ten cents, and the excellent entertainment offered resulted, as usual, in Standing Room Only. The Varieties is not the only show that makes use of the l9and's all year-round availabil- ity. From the time the band reorganizes early in the fall, until the end of the school year, it is in constant demand. First, of course, come the football games. Everyone who attends these gatherings is familiar with its spirited rendition of school songs. The band is frequently heard Ifijl S

The class reporter reports humorous incidents and the activities of those prominent in school affairs. The club reporter hands in periodic reports on the business of the club, the type of programs, the officers, and the plans for the future. Miss Mildred Pace, the adviser, instructs the members about the best way to gather their notes, which notes to use, and which to reject, and how to write them so they will make inter- esting reading. At its regular meetings, the club invites alumni who are active in newspaper work throughout the city to address them. Occasionally, they make trips of inspection through local newspaper plants. The Girls' Athletic Association provided the first social function of the year on Wednes- day, October 28, when they gave a Hallowelen party for the freshman girls. It was fitting for this group to be first, for the girls who compose this organization are leaders in many lines. To qualify for membership, a girl must be a member of a class or varsity team of basketball, volleyball, tumbling, fieldball, or badminton. The other requirements are a good character, high scholastic ability, and fine sportsmanship. I uurleen.

in chapel also, both during football season and later in the year. The Varieties, Gym Exhibit, and various other shows, some not connected with Coughlin, seek che co-operation of the band. Being open to all classes of the school, from freshman to senior, the band is always ready to start at the beginning of the year with the last year's underclassmen serving as a foundation for the group. After the preliminary re-organization work is over, Mr. Paul B. Lewis, director, begins to train che members on the large variety of pieces they are expected to play. A great many stunt numbers, overtures, and many typical band marches are gone over and perfected. When this is done, the band is once again ready to supply the needs of all who wish its services. School banking has for many years been one of the most prominent features of the public schools. It is only natural, therefore, that the Bank Cashiers, Association, which handles this work, should organize early in the year. After the head cashier has been picked by the principal in consultation with the faculty, each class elects a class cashier and assistant to take care of its banking needs. These then automatically become members of the Bank Cashiers' Association. Y Under their leadership, with Miss Marie Walsh as adviser, banking proceeds smoothly. Bulletins on thrift are posted in each room, and everything possible is done to spread the .5lXfl'l'll
