Mantle Orator XVho is that dynamic speaker that thrills us all with his Fiery speeches? Itis Tom Gill, our mantle oratorg truly this family album would not be complete without his pleasant face. Tom's splendid personality, his amiability, and his dependability have won for him countless friends. As president of the Science Club we appreciated his good nature and kindly ways. He is also listed on the rolls of Clio, French Club, and the Chess and Checker Club. DONALD lVlcHUGH President lVlay the best man win--Aye, and what a battle it was, but out of the commotion and din comes a quiet reserved lad in the person of Donald Mel-lugh to win his way to the most honored of positions, the presidency of the Senior Class. Donald has steadily gained in popularity during his four years at Coughlin. His high scholastic recorcl can be verified by his en- rollment in the National Honor Society. He is also entrusted with the responsible position of Head Bank Cashier. LOUIS DYMOND Treasurer One of the true men of the Senior Class ls our senior Treasurer. Louis or l..upo', Dymond, as he is known to everyone, is a typical athlete, having served on the varsity football squad for four years, a feat which is very seldom attained. Lupo is president of the Lettermerfs Cluh. But this is not all. Ask anyone about his performance on the basketball floor or on the track. Remember way back when we were ufreshiesii and 'lsophsf' well, Lupe was captain of the fresh- man and reserve basketball squad. MILDRED AICHER Secretary A cupful of charm, personality, good suture. and patience mixed with a dash of humor, dignity and perseveranceq and wc have Mildred Aicher, capably filling her position in our album family as its secretary, lxflillie is one of the most popular girls of the Commercial course. A member of Sorosis for three years, her willing assistance was welcome on the Clio-Sorosis Reception and Banquet Committees, She has been a wide-awake, up and com- ing secretary since entering Coughlin. SECOND ROW: Ruth Kane, Irene Juris, Dorothy I-iinz, Helen Baughman, Alice Livings. Sorosis QOROSIS, the big sisterl, in our book of Family Portraits, has been one of the A most active clubs of Coughlin for the past forty-four years. In spite of the fact that it is the oldest girls, association in the school, it has lost none of the spirit of its younger days. Membership in this society is open to the girls of any of the three upper classes. It is not necessary to possess dramatic, artistic or musical ability. All a member need have is a fair scholastic standing, and she will enter upon an equal basis with the other members. Meetings are held each Tuesday in the Clio Room. Programs, both musical and literary, are planned in advance hy a special committee. The two most enjoy- able and satisfactory affairs of the year were the Clio-Sorosis Reception and the Banquet, which were both made possible by Sorosis, together with Clio. fi With the competent supervision of Miss Sturdevant, Miss V 1 I XX Gillespie, and Miss Tischler, the society has been able to maintain its tradition of promoting acquaintances and friendship, and of i J advancing literary and musical culture. ,, .Fcffitfsfyi ', '1qr.x.-- r. All these qualities characterize the members of the Girls' Athletic Association. To become a member of this club it is necessary to have played on a varsity or class team for at least one seasong basketball, volleyball, fieldball, traclc and tumbling are the teams in which a Coughlin girl may participate. She must have high marks and a good standing among her classmates. The large membership in this organization is due to the fact that there are many athletically inclined girls at Coughlin. The club originated twenty years ago with the purpose of ,V H -Q promoting sportsmanship, leadership, and of aiding the various girls' athletic teams. The members have carried this purpose i out to its full extent and have successfully maintained the asso- ciationis previous high rating. T about the miclclle of our family boolc we approach the French Club, which c has been founded for the purpose of enabling the members to secure a 1. , better acquaintance and knowldege of the language they study. It is optional as to whether or not a French student wishes to join this club, We have known for quite a while, the only way really to learn a language is to converse in it. The French Club realizes the need for this. Their business meetings are conducted entirely in the French tongue. However this is not the entire range of their activities. They study many things that have to do with the French people and their customs. Talks are given by the members on the geography of France, its customs, songs. people and the events occurring there today. An interesting topic of discussion this year was the part that the French people played in the colonization of North America. The club is sponsored by Miss Katherine Toohey, Dean of the Girls. This club has been her hobby for a number of years, and occupies its present status in Coughlin mainly through her If earnest and interested efforts in its behalf. These youthful members of our Coughlin family hold an import- ant place in our Album of Nlemories. For a number of years only sophomores were admitted to the club, but this year a new plan was submitted whereby a limited number of freshmen could also obtain membership by passing tryout tests. If the test proved that the student had talent he would be admitted as an associate member. The faculty adviser is Mrs. Ruth Merrill, who so ably directed the clever play, The King's English, which was presented by Buskins in chapel. The play was given in connection with uGood English Week.7, This club not only provides a social activity for the under-classmen, but it is a great asset to its members and the school in general. The early us -- i training received in this club enables the students to improve .ul Zv: '- their dramatic abilities in preparation for more active worlc as '-,v3 upper-classmen. The club held regular meetings at which short -all --:Q.,21g'ij'ii. plays were given by chosen groups of students. Miss Sturclevant and Miss Pace, as advisers, have helped considerably in secur- ing the best possible speakers. This group is composed entirely of girls, who meet in the first three lunch periods every Thursday. Any freshman, sophomore junior or senior girl who is interested enough in art to work hard is eligible. This year these art students have not only worked at drawing, but have found other phases of it extremely interesting. During the course of the year they took trips to many art exhibitions, the principal ones being the Woman s Club Exhibit an the display of Oriental rugs in the Boston Store. Under the capable direction of Mrs. Stahl these girls have worked on silhouet- ing figure drawing and commercial art work. The most important theme of this year s work has been de- i ' ' signing, with the final problem being the application of design on ' , linoleum block prints. s' 4 ' t ough most of the members of this group do not expect 1 X to follow up this line of work they are intensely interestedg and M. .. the underclass members have hopes of some day belonging to lI:l'l'ki'yAxl commercial art club. .f. lilql'I S'x'lr'ninw f.T,w,-,Y.',,gq,..,, ..-.V v -.. , ,. .. K S the school team of 1934-35 draws to a close, we look back and picture quite A vividly the hours of mingled sadness and joy that have played their part in the making of one of the happiest years of our lives. It is all very clear now, as we sit back, and slowly recall the year's activities, but soon time will begin weaving its gray impenetrable mists and these recollections which we prize so dearly. will become vague and gradually fade away completely. It is to prcvcnt this separa- tion from our high school memories that we have arranged and placed here in our Family Album, a calendar of all school events, entertainments and social functions, hoping that in the years to come we may live again amid the scenes that we have loved best.
