P- ' .x This annual is dedicated in humble admiration and gratitude to Mr. Lloyd Hardt, who has given much time and toil towards the betterment of our school. In the years he has been with us, he has shown great loyalty, fair- ness, and perseverance in his contributions to the ideals of Cotulla High School. In the unselfish giving of his time, he often went beyond the normal limits of his duties to give aid to struggling students and classes. It is our sincere hope that between these covers are words and pictures that you will enjoy now and treasure in the years to come. If one day in the future you happen to open this book and it brings back pleas- ant memories, we will have achieved our goal. R. LANDRUM sapmmwzaw af emma ram sma Members of the Senior Class and Annual staff: During your short span of life, you have witnessed the advent of the Atomic Age and the passing from the Atomic to the Space Age. With satellites zooming through space and rock- ets striking the moon, there has never been a period in his- tory when educated leadership is so important. You have been given a foundation in the arts and sciences but remember there are basic human moral and spiritual founda- tions that must be developed along with your academic work, if our American way of life is to be preserved. I wish to congratulate you on the publication of the 1960 Round-Up. Sincerely , Q C . R. Since they had only one first string line- man returning from 1958, no one expected the Cowboys to win many games, much lessto win district. Nobody counted on the spirit and determination of the Cowboys, though. Here is the story of how the Cowboys won district in football for the first time. After three weeks of practicing, the Cowboys were ready for their first game, with Crystal City. 'Storey and Hinkel scored for the Cowboys and the game ended 14-0. The Cowboy line showed a strong defense. In the second game of the season, Iaimes scored twice to lead the Cowboys over the Three Rivers Bulldogs, 14-0. In the third game of the season, with Freer, the Cowboys started off slow and the Buckaroos scored 21 points in the first quarter. After the first quarter, the Cowboys got started and outscored them, but the first quarter proved to be disastrous. The game ended 34-14. The Cowboys played in Benavides the next week. Cotulla, who was expect- ing an easy game, was handed a surprise when they lost, 26 -8. After a hard week of practice, the Cowboys were ready for the St. Joseph Antlers. The Cowboys played hard and the game ended 20-0 in Cotu11a's favor. Carrion scored twice for Cotulla and Myers once. After last year's 47-12 defeat to Sabinal, the Cowboys wanted revenge. Storey scored twiceg Maness, once, and Barbour, once as the Cowboys romped over the Yellowjackets to the tune of 28 -6. The Iourdanton game was the first district game of the 1959 season. The score was tied 6-6 until Storey plunged over from the two with 57 seconds left. The game ended 12-6 in favor of the Cowboys. After last year's defeat to the Poteet Aggies, the Cowboys wanted very much to beat them. The first half was scoreless, but Storey scored immediately after the half to give the Cowboys an 8-O edge. Late in the game the Cowboys scored again, and the game ended 16 -O. The Carrizo game was the one that the Cowboys needed to win district. The Wildcats scored first and were ahead most of the game, but Cotulla was ahead 14-12 at the half. After the half, Carrizo scored twice to make the score 26- 14. Everyone thought the Cowboys were beaten, and that this season was just another Cotulla season. The Cowboys, though, came back and scored twice in the fourth quarter with Maness scoring both on passes from Ialmes. The Cowboys, scoring the two points after the touchdown, won the game, 28-26 to win district. The next week the overconfident Cowboys almost lost to Dilley. They were outplayed, but still managed to win 8-0. After a most successful season, the Cowboys met Boerne for the bi-district game. The Greyhounds scored twice in the fourth quarter to beat the Cowboys, 19-8. Iaimes scored the Cowboys' eight points. Pass interceptions hurt the Cowboys more than anything else. Too many times they had a drive stopped by a pass interception. 4 1757 FIRST ROW: Barbour fManagery, Hernandez, Roath, Hatterman Churchill Barbour, Ramos, Carrion, and Knise1eyfManagerj.
