January 31 the Cowboys met San Felipe again in the first game of the second round and again came out on top. The game was played in an ice-cold gym in Del Rio, but as usual for the Cowboys turned out to be another scorcher. The Cowboy Band gave a concert for the school January 27. This was their first perform Such poise I We're gonna have to WORK THE BALL! ance of the year aside from football shows and from all appearances, they made a fine impression on the student body. Again it was March of Dimes time and CHS participated wholeheartedly as usual. w x N x A We are the Cowgirls, The Cowgirls are we. . .

H Tuesday, January 3, found CHS , Q ' ' back in the groove and rested up . -' ' 4 ' ' - ' ,i'TiN after the Christmas holidays. That 'V A I A' yitll 7- A ' ' is, all except the EL VAQJERO staff who took an extended vacation and skipped publication the second Friday in January. We were hosts to Dilley, January 3, and the Cowboys met defeat again but the Cowgirls eased ahead in a thriller. The following week-end our boys went to the Dilley tourna- ment, worked their way to the finals by beating tough Freer in a close one, and lost only to Dilley again. We placed Cox and Mills on the all-tournament team. That's twol January 13 started district play with the Cowboys running over San Felipe. Then followed Pearsall, Carrizo, Crystal, and Hondo in rapid succession. The boys beat Pearsall and Carrizo by two points each, Crystal beat us by one, and both girls and boys handed Hondo defeat. We know that mouth is there. After whipping Pearsall, the Cowgirls were stomped by Carrizo Springs and Crystal City.

-will Cotulla Cowboys were closing in around that District Champs trophy. The girls fell behind in the last round after bowing to Crystal and Carrizo again, but they beat Pearsall and finished the season off by crushing Hondo. With the boys it was a different story for they sneaked around Pearsall, Carrizo, Crystal, and Hondo, sewing up the district, In the bi-district game with Three Rivt Stock Show -- 1956 February. . .the shortest month of the year, the hardest to spell, and . .the busiest. Finishing up basketball was the big thing at the moment. It was fast becoming apparent that those And positively no kicking or scratching, girls. the Cowboys lost a heartbreaker, 52-48, losing their ticket to the regional tour- nament. of course, the loss hurt, but we were very, very proud of our boys and no one felt any real regret.
