We were hosts to Dilley, January 3, and the Cowboys met defeat again but the Cowgirls eased ahead in a thriller. The following week-end our boys went to the Dilley tourna- ment, worked their way to the finals by beating tough Freer in a close one, and lost only to Dilley again. We placed Cox and Mills on the all-tournament team. That's twol January 13 started district play with the Cowboys running over San Felipe. Then followed Pearsall, Carrizo, Crystal, and Hondo in rapid succession. The boys beat Pearsall and Carrizo by two points each, Crystal beat us by one, and both girls and boys handed Hondo defeat. We know that mouth is there. After whipping Pearsall, the Cowgirls were stomped by Carrizo Springs and Crystal City.

Maybe. . .I can get just a little more in. . . The football boys were honored with banquets given by parents. Around Christmas time the EL VAQUERO sponsored a toy drive. The students responded favorably and made it a big success, the toys going to Co- tul1a's needy children. In the Christmas issue of EL VAQUERO, the staff published letters to Santa Claus. Everything from Buicks and solutions to algebra problems to mink stoles and clean knee guards were asked for. At last it was time for the Christ- mas holidays and CHS was deserted for a time. . . .An' anybody what tries ta follow, . . Oh, we're the girls from CHS, and we, . . An' so I sez to him, I sez. . . January 31 the Cowboys met San Felipe again in the first game of the second round and again came out on top. The game was played in an ice-cold gym in Del Rio, but as usual for the Cowboys turned out to be another scorcher. The Cowboy Band gave a concert for the school January 27. This was their first perform Such poise I We're gonna have to WORK THE BALL! ance of the year aside from football shows and from all appearances, they made a fine impression on the student body. Again it was March of Dimes time and CHS participated wholeheartedly as usual. w x N x A We are the Cowgirls, The Cowgirls are we. . .
