Nancy Jean Messer Early one September mornlng nmeteen hundred forty flve one hundred and four brlght eyed young sters entered Cottonwood School to begm the1r frrst year of study Some had happy smllrng faces wh1le others were quite frrghtened Before long however most of us learned that school was not such a bad place after all ln fact rt was fun Of the or1g1nal one hundred and four twenty remarn to recerve the1r drplomas They are Glenn Traylor Amerlxs Godwm Martha Trndell La Don Hall Glenn Jones A J McCardle Annxe Earle Grace Erln Granger Larnette Love Mary Lou Maddox Bobble McCord Lonnell Merritt LOUISE Calhoun Donnle Bruner Herman Andrews Bobble Fears Merlene Deese Nancy Jean Messer and Esther Watford Throughout the years others have Jorned our class Durrng the elementary years Oulda Dlckerson and Earl and Gerald Hollrs came from Ardllla Norma Jean Etherldge and B1lly Wayne Bradberry from Ashford Frances Adams from Dothan Dorothy Blrssett from Mlaml Florrda and Allen Wells and Wayne Krrkland from another grade ln school Durxng the hrgh school years Nelson Hooper came from Ardllla V1rg1n1a Johnson and Jo Ann Thomas from Dothan Nadrne Calloway from Headland Glorla Snell from Wrcksburg Sue Parker from Webb Ruthre Jean Scott Robert Danford and Brlly Don Anderson from Ashford Robert Love and Davrd Baxley from Madrrd Lourse Webb from Spartenburg South Carolma and AIVIH Granger returned to school after servlng rn the armed forces The elementary years went by slowly but we frnally found ourselves marchmg down the 81516 of the audrtorrum to recexve our srxth grade drplomas The followmg summer passed swrftly and we found ourselves 1n Jumor Hrgh School We drscovered this to be qu1te drfferent from elementary school but we fmally became accustomed to the changlng of classes before the year was out Thrngs turned out qurte well durmg our three years rn Jumor Hrgh School and graduatron was a happy time for us Fifty four puplls rece1ved nrnth grade drplomas Throughout our school years we have had our ups and downs as most students do We have been qu1te a problem to some of our teachers but somehow they managed us Our Junror year was f1lled wrth events that we shall never forget People are strll tallung about our class play Wxllxe s Week End The Iumor Senior Banquet wlth the theme The Wlshrng Well was l1vely and gay All too soon summer had slrpped by and rn the fall we found ourselves occupylng the senxor room wrth our beloved home room teacher Mrs Wrndsor Our class was very actrve rn sports clubs and other act1v1t1es La Don Hall a semor bemg the 1rst presldent of the Student Councrl whrch was organrzed last year Some credrt goes to our class for an out standrng football team smce several of the players are semors Robert Love La Don Hall Davxd Baxley Robert Danford and Bllly Don Anderson Also f1V6 of the cheerleaders came from the senror class Lonnell Merrrtt Ruthre Jean Scott Jo Ann Thomas Dorothy Bllssett and V1rg1n1a Johnson We have had two prrncrpals durmg our twelve years of school For the frrst ten years there was Mr G L Baxter and for the last two years Mr G A Walters We thrnk both of them have done wonderful Job rn helplng us through our twelve years of school For the frrst tlme 1n the hrstorv of Cottonwood School we have a standardlzed rmg and the day we rece1ved those rmgs was one of great excrtement Other OCCSSIODS of great rnterest thrs year were the senror play and the Iunror Senror banquet topped of course by the greatest event of all Graduatlonl Ill ll U .
